Why the 944 is such a fun car to own.
Share stories of trips you've had in the car, or of those times you just go out at night and drive.
One to start:
The car stays very composed, no rolling or tossing, even while doing 60+ up and down a twisty road, hitting 2nd from 3rd or 4th to take a 90+ degree turn at 40 mph (where the sign says 15)
i love this thing..

This summer I spent five or six weeks adding 10,000 km to my 944. The route was Toronto-L.A., L.A. up the coast to Vancouver, then Vancouver-Toronto. Along the way roared over prairie and mountain, forest and desert, the 944 hungrily gnawing at the pavement the whole time.
Like so many other owners this trip introduced me to the orgasmic delight of throwing the machine along winding mountain roads. Until this summer I had no idea that I could experience near-religious ecstasy from driving. O those winding cliffside curves south of Monterrey! O those dry forested hills north of the Grand Canyon! O the run up to Estes Park above Boulder! O the inviting flats of Kansas and the Dakotas! O the ****-like troopers of Washington! And o that 100-mile stretch of Utah with nothing and no one just asking for speed!
I enjoyed the trip, can you tell?
Of course the tranny ended up shredding itself near the end of the trip (in Lansing, Michigan), requiring me to have it towed home, but luckily it didn't cost much. It could've been worse; after Vancouver I'd been planning to drive up north to the Arctic Ocean. What do you do with a dead 944 in the Arctic??
To sum up, I love this car.

I love working on my car. I love being with it, I love driving it. there are times where I just want to kick it and give up but then I always change my mind, it is so amazing!!!
It toys with me, Ive learned its subtle nature that I adore. I know what it needs, there is never a better time than when I fire it up and listen to its smooth clean idle, and then it calls to me.... hey boss? where we goin boss, what roads are we gonna tear up!!?
This is when I dance with glee and hop inside and tear out of my driveway for the open road.
anyways thats how I feel about my car. Hope its not too gooey of a story.

I have yet to take my 951 to the NC mountains for a visit at my parents place. Lots and lots and lots of twisties waiting to be introduced to my 951.
Ah now near the coast I know of a very deserted road that runs about 3 miles dead straight. Of course I have never driven 140+ MPH down this stretch of road but I hear it's a good spot for it.

Because even with a small engine, the way the overall car performs is just fun.
I still have yet to find a car that I can drive in for 3 hours, get out, and feel that un-tired.
With most performance cars, even modern ones, you drive them for a few hours and you feel it.

I enjoy the adventure of calling Paragon once a month or so to order some new part for one of my cars. And the adventure that is my credit card bill after rebuilding both an NA and a 951.
Skip and Jason, bless their souls. Now if they only had a rebate rewards card....

I've also planned out my explanation to the cop - how it is just a suggested speed limit, and my car is designed to take corners faster than typical cars.
And my favorite thing about my 951: shifting up a gear, and engaging it already in boost - that sensation that you're accelerating harder and harder with each shift

When I walk outside in the morning to leave for work, I am confronted with multiple possibilities.. my brand new '06 Z, my '73 Z, my '79 ZX, my girlfriends M Roadster (if she is not working that day), the minivan (oh yeah...) or the 944. I always pick the P-car...even if the other cars have full tanks and the '44 is low, I take the Porsche to work. I'm not bragging...far from it. It's just worth noting that the '44 has an intangible that the others don't, even the new Z.
I bought my first '44 back in 2004 (when I joined here) and once I sold it, I longed for another. I'm not getting rid of this car...and it's not even a nice 944 but rather a good one. I'm driving to Atlanta this weekend, my first such trek in a '44, so I'm looking forward to my first real roadtrip in this car.
It just rules...

In my 67 plus years (started driving at 15) I have owned over 450 vehicles. As a professional car fixer
(retired) I have worked on and driven just about everything out there except the exotics, you know what they are! I have 1965 Corvair Corsa under restoration which I have owned since 1970. This was my
favorite car until owned my first 944. I am now on my third 944 and have more fun driving this in the
Black Hills than my motorcycle even! Recently drove 944 no.2 to Minn. and back and to Colo. and
back and was never tired or bored, just wanted more! Longest trip in no.3 so far about 200 mi.
round trip, looking forward to more.
