Like the above link? If so, which one (they range from 40 something to 80 something? Also, please explain the loaded vs. semi-loaded and no loaded options. I have looked up the definition but am still not clear exactly what "loaded" means in this context. TIA. Michael

Loaded means comes with calipers, pins, and all hardware. semi loaded, not sure, probably just hardware kit. not loaded means just the caliper, no new pads or anything.

That is the web version of advance auto parts, used to work there and used a bunch of reman calipers. Loaded means they come with pads, unloaded no pads, never heard of semi-loaded. The site probably lists A1 cardone which is reman, Bendix and Raybestos are normally new.

Thanks. I think I am going to buy a set of remanufactured and rebuild the ones I take off. Seems like, from what I have read, home rebuilds can turn out iffy. AznDrgn, would you have any concerns about the Cardone rebuild versions? Thanks again. Michael

As long as the cylinders aren't scored there's nothing wrong with a home rebuild, and you know the quality of the seals you put it. It's really pretty straightforward, and the kits are something like $12 each.

A semi loaded caliper should include all of the hardware for the caliper like the slider pins and the pad retainers.

For the fronts, I like buying the reman calipers. They come with new hardware, which alone costs $50, so basically you get the caliper for free!

I've rebuilt a couple of calipers before. They were the front calipers on a Benz 560SEL, which is a very large and heavy car. They brakes worked excellently and without any issues, and were still good when we sold it 10,000 miles later. The kits were like $15 each... If a whole caliper is around 40-80 I suppose it's worth it if you want peace of mind, and if you don't want to deal with possible complications and headaches.

A1 cardone is hit or miss with their calipers, over the past 2 or 3 years I've probably used a dozen sets and never had a problem with them. In the course of working parts I have seen a good bit come back defective, now weather it was due to installer error or rebuild error I don't know. Advance carries a limited lifetime warranty on the A1 so I wouldn't hesitate to use it again, just keep your receipt.

Rebuilding them yourself is easy if you have the experience of being able to change a caliper. I rebuilt mine maybe 50,000 miles ago with no problems at all. But if the bores are corroded don't bother.
