Default any reason not to powdercoat control arms?

i was going to drop off most of my suspension at the powder coater but then i thought i should ask if there are any reasons not to powder the control arms... will it weaken them in any way? they are later aluminum 951 part number arms.

i suppose that is true... but i never looked for cracks in the first place...

im more worried about weather or not it will promote cracks from being baked in an oven

Why powdercoat 'em? Can't even see those things.

Well if you're addicted, how about I send you some parts off my 944 to be powdercoated?

Brett - Wouldnt it be a better idea to invest in a stronger aftermarket control arm instead of bling ? On the other hand - how cheap is cheap - I could use some bling myself.

I would be leery of what may happen to the balljoint assemblies at high temps with the powdercoating process.

there are no ball joints, i took everything off to put on my geometry correction kit.

they're stripped down as far as they go.

How high is the baking temp and for how long? My guess is that since it seems harmless to cam towers and intake manifolds it's probably O.K. There might be a metallurgist lurking who can give us the low down on what kind of aluminum the control arms are made from and if there is any danger of decreasing yeild strength/fatigue life with this bake cycle.

I think this is a FUNDAMENTALLY bad idea. I once cracked a control arm while driving on the track, and it was a terrifying experience. You really need to inspect your control arms regularly, and powder coating will make it difficult, if not impossible, to do a proper inspection. Bad, bad, bad idea, particularly for something that doesn't get seen 24x7. Seems like getting a tatto on your *****. Why?
