Exclamation Timing belt rubbing on rear plastic cover above water pump. HELP!

I just did my belts this weekend. Before starting the car I noticed it rubbing. I retensioned the belt and it was still rubbing.... did it again....still rubbing.

I drove the car today, and you can hear it rubbing. The noise however is not as prominent as it was after I started it yesterday. I do know it's still doing it. I don't understand. I replaced EVERY ROLLER and checked that the rear cover is seated correctly. Everything is fine. I don't think the belt has ever done this before and I have searched on here for the same symptoms and came up with inconclusive results. Any help would be much appreciated before I melt my timing belt as well as some intake and exhaust valves.

Yeah...it sounds like one of the rollers or gears are on backwards. I did something similar when I changed mine but fortunately realized that it didn't look right and went back to my "before" pictures to sort it out.

guys is that lip on the bottom cam gear that goes on the crankshaft supposed to be facing the engine, or out toward the front of the car. I think that may be it.

Get a new belt before you dig back in. Who knows how many miles you took off of that one rubbing it on your rear cover.

Happened to me only it was a mechanic that did it. Took me a while to find out why and troubleshooting that led me to decide to run without belt covers.

Hmmm... when we were playing with the belts on Wipeout's car it ended up doing the same thing... we never took any rollers off. His ended up doing the same thing even though we tensioned the rollers several times (early car). We finally got it right but he says it still squeals a little at certain rpm's... it didn't do it beforehand but again we didn't change anything except the belt tension. Hmmmmmm.....

I do the 90 degree twist tension. At first I thought I had it over-tensioned. I released it and did it again. Since these are new belts, i'm doing about 80 degrees tension.

I got another timing belt for insurance, so I'll crack it open tonight and fix it. *fingers crossed*

Ah crap I'm in trouble. The crankshaft timing gear's lip is facing the right way. It's facing the radiator. If I had it on the other way, there would be insufficient pressure on the washer that is used to drive the oil pump.

I'm stumped now as to what it could be...

UPDATE: The timing cover is either tweaked or isn't bolted in all the way. I jiggled it and it has some flex in it along with a little clunk, LOOSE!

Do you happen to have a picture of how that lower gear goes on? I think I messed mine up and might be why i'm leaking oil all over the place.

Do you have the spacer on the timing belt tensioner? There is a washer that goes between the engine and the tensioner which brings out the tensioner towards the front of the car by about 2mm.
