Does anyone have or know where I can find a list of the different engine codes used in the 944/951/968 cars?

There is a detailed list of engine codes in pelican parts. If you look around the parts website you should be able to find an area with 944 tech info. Here are lists of VIN's and engine codes. I believe there 3-4 lists for the 944, 951, 968 etc grouped by model years.

Are the blocks and heads both numbered and specific to a car? I'm asking specifically about the 968, but curious to know about the 944 as well. Thanks.

there's no direct tie between engine # and car VIN, but if you contact Porsche directly they can tell you the engine serial # that came in your car originally.
