Thumbs up

yep ,SoCal is the man... Today I'm gonna ohm out the speed sensors and if they check out I'm going to get a used DME unit because I pretty much ruled out every thing else.I found a used parts place on BOBS GARAGE thats about 1/2 hr from where I live.At some point I would like to try to repair my DME and have a spare. The problem is time,I WISH I could clone me! My car is a 83 944 none turbo .I brougt it ten yrs ago and other than t-belts and tune-ups and one fuel pump relay it's been the best car I ever had.It has 140k on it but doesn't know it yet. When running it screams...I want to start driving it again because it gets kick-*** gas milelage. I'll see ya later,I gotta run errands in my honda --bumma.....................

When you are cranking the car over and the tach does not jump slightly, the DME is bad. Start there.

when I had this issue, i took a leap and bought a used one off e-bay for $40.00. it took 10 mins to install, and she fired up on the first try.

you could also find a friend with a 944 who would be willing to let you try his DME, to ensure this is the issue. like I said, they take 10 mins to swap out. good luck!

Hey, you wouldn't happen to be the same Joe Mondello who made the cam for my 1969 Oldsmobile 455 big block, and the same guy who does all the work for Oldsmobile cams?

Joe, Get a DME off of eBay. Make sure it has the correct part number. I would have to search this forum just as you would for DME transistor re solder. Had a couple of great pictures of the problem solder joints.

Oh man, that sucks.

I've got an 81 TransAm (same body style as your 6.6). It has a 350 chevy in there now that I just dropped in there, but I have a 455 Oldsmobile big block that's at the machine shop right now... I'm expecting somewhere in the range of 450-500hp and quite a bit more than that in torque.

With what I've got in it, I could get up to 700hp, but that's just far too much. I'm more than happy with 450, so I'm choking it slightly with an Olds 455 Toronado Intake and a matched rebuild rochester quadrajet.

Make SURE you got the best possible brakes you get on that car.....I was young and alot more stupid than I am now.An old lady all medicated out pulled out and stopped across both lanes ,I was doing about 80 ...I spun her around like a top and plowed into a rock wall and tree.I put all the money into the mill , not realizing that it was a heavy car and it tended to lock up in the back.My car had shoe brakes all burn't up.CALIPERS ARE SO MUCH BETTER! Her insurance company gave me 3 grand,I think that paid for the wheels and tires....Be safe Todd-------you can always get another car, but you only get one trip down the 1/4 mile of life..........

Bad crank sensor=no ignition=dme sends no fuel.

I changed mine and the car fired right up with almost identical symptoms.

thanks again So Cal and fellow gear heads,I ordered 2 sensors from PARAGON,how can I go wrong at 66 bucks each. They should be hear in couple of days and if it does'nt work I'll take a ride and work a deal on that DME.That car really spoiled me but now I understand it's fuel management system and I'll be more prepared if something goes wrong again. I looked though the threads for that solder fix but must of went over it,but I'll try again because I plan on using the 944 alot this summer and fall and I would really like to have a spare DME and relay in the car with me .If anything maybe I could help out someone else like you guys helped me.....
