Default '89 944 Cab DME OBD carputer

Hello all, I have a 944 S2 Cab in Sydney that I would like to tinker with a virtual dash concept (ie use a Pocket PC or Carputer to make an LCD Instrument cluster).

I pulled the car apart and found it has a Bosch Motronic system the the following lable:

0.261.200.195
944.618.124.02
944S.NW.02

My question is does my car have a OBD-II plug somewhere that I can just plug an off the shelf graphics diagnistics unit in to? If so where is the plug?

If not is there another way to do this?

Thanks

Dean (Sydney)

I think its OBDII for trucks in 96 and 95 for passenger cars. My 95 Bronco is non OBDII.

OBD2 Was mandated in 1996, but was released in some vehicles earlier for testing, and just to meet regulations early. Most manufacturers released at least one vehicle pre 96 that was obd2

The S2 has an early version of OBD I. You need the Bosch Hammer or do a search over in the 964 forum for their homegrown scan tool and interface.

Great thanks. look like i have a 7pin OBDI connection. I was hoping i could find some software that would give me a really nice digital virtual dash. but looks like most of the tools out there are just that (ie tools). Oh well.

Thanks for everyones helpl. Especially TT and Kraft.

If any one comes across a nice virtual dash software (PPC / WM5 would be great) or wants to develop one I would make a donation )

You can read codes, perform adaptation, perform actuator's test and clean error codes using this plug.

I made home made tool mayself with few components. Works great.
