I recently graduated from Nti, a division of UTI and was accepted to continue on to PTAP Porsche Technical Aprenticeship Program.. I think thats it, anyway they only take 14 people out of 10000+ people attending UTI campuses and i made it!!!! I start the 19th of Feb, and will be living in south Atlanta for 19 weeks!!! I cant wait!!!!

Congrats, Marky! But you may want to work on your spelling of the company you are hoping to work for! (Sorry, couldn't help busting your chops).

I thought anyone could specify the program they wanted to be in based on how they advertise it on tv. What do you have to do to be chosen? Anyways, congrats!

You go for 3 interviews, first one with a school director, then with a school Porsche Rep, then with a rep from Porsche NA. the first interview determines weather you qualify and even stand a chance, the second one narrows it down to between 30 and 40 people, the last one takes it down to 14. When you start school you name your top 3 mine were Porsche BMW and VW... The positives i had going for me were 8 years retail management, 4 ASE's, Ford Fact program through UTI, im a little older 23, than most, with a family and kids, willing to relocate, GPA was 3.94(one B when my second son was born) My attendence was 99%. The only negative strike against me is that i dont have recent work experience in a shop. To get in basically you have to shine above the other candidates. Dont believe ANYTHING that school promises you, everything I have i busted my A$$ for, that school will tell you ANYTHING to get inyou in...

Congrats! Yeah I'm curious too, why did they pick you over all the other people.

Enjoy working on boxsters and cayennes all day! j/k

Edit: wow 8 years retail management, and your only 23? how does that work? Where did you manage?

I have talked to 2 guys who graduated from the program, both of there first projects involved dropping the engine in a cayenne, the one was was replacing the engine and started looking for the lift for that car, and was told it was in a box in the attic, he was the first tech in North America to be swapping a engine in one!!!!

After graduation, we have a position for you!
But only if you can relate to front engined cars as well!

Congratulations!

I graduated from Port Huron High School - still have family there. Don't get up that way nearly enough, though.

I've heard that its getting increasingly difficult to find qualified mechanics of any kind let alone Porsche's. My local shop, that has a great reputation and is constantly busy, has been looking for someone for months to no avail. What are the reasons for this? I'd have thought the money was good, there's plenty of demand, so why are there so few?

Money will be good for me, i have already been offerd $17 an hour through Porsche, and if i wanted to go with Ford i could be making $20 an hour as many hours as i want. It comes down to finding good mechs who will be honest, and not take advantage of the cust, my mentality is if i can do a good job this time, earn there trust they will come back to me time and time again, i have heard many stories of people coming in requesting a mech, he is on vaca, and the cust says he'll come back... i want to be in that situation..
