Where exactly are you located?

I live in Minnesota- Northwest Twin City suburbs. True to Mr. Murphy, I've not seen snow since the tires were mounted.

I have used Blizzaks for years but got a better deal on the X-Ice at Discount. We'll see how they work. Last Friday I drove to Kenosha where they got 17 inches of snow. There were three of us so the 944 stayed home and we took JAC/ASS-1 (our primay Japanese Anonymous Compact/Accord Surrogate Sedan). I almost took the Blizzaks off before the trip since dry highway miles eat the "microcell" traction surface (aka foam rubber). For once my laziness was rewarded.

Shopping for snow tires was quite an ordeal. I tried to order tires by size but the clerks wouldn't quote tires without knowing the car. I'd guess this was compute system driven. Once I said Porsche, the clerks tried to talk me into "Performance Snow" tires. These don't have the foam rubber and look to me like agressive all season tires. They were concerned a Blizzak/X-Ice wouldn't be "responsive" enough for the 944.

I asked if responsiveness was the goal, wouldn't Blizzaks on a 944 be better than a Buick regardless of tire mounted? After all, my winter driving goal is to miss the idiot in front of me and a foam rubber shod 944 should out-brake the chariot of the gods.

Yep, it's the season. I just bolted up the anti-dubs, a set of 15" phonies with used blizzaks. I had fun contemplating if I should put the 70% tread set up front or in the rear vs the 40% set. Do I want more grab in the front or rear in the snow? Hmm.. Both sides have a reasonable case. I'll bring that up next bench racing session. It turns out it does not matter, the darn wheels have different offset. I'm too lazy to have them remounted so I put them like they came off, with more tread left up front. That was what I wanted anyway, I'm more worried about braking and steering than accel. So much for evening out the wear. The shakedown laps around the snow covered local roads were a rousing success. Throttle induced oversteer is one of the funnest things, after all, they made a whole 'sport' around it! :burnout:

Im getting my Dunlop graspics mounted on mon.
Dont want to hi-jack the thread, but does the preformance parts splash guard kit
here require drilling? I was also looking at these , but Im not sure which is better?

yeah should require like a 1/4" drill bit and a few screws.

Found a set of late offset phones with Blizzaks on 3 rims - wanted to buy a 4th but the tire was discontinued so I picked up 2 of the new Blizzaks and have a spare. Should be mounting them soon. Found some snow last Thursday in Columbus on business. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Mine is all locked up, cover and ready for a snowy winter! Doing all my upgrades starting March, can't wait to get my hands dirty already!
