Yes, it is a scam. He will try to send you a fake cashier's check/US postal money order for more than the cost of the car and then ask you to cash it and send him back the difference via Western Union or Money Gram (the fastest ways to send money to scammers world wide). The bank will (if you're lucky) spot the check is fake and not cash it and you will be on the hook for attempted fraud. If you're not lucky, the bank will cash the check/money order and you will owe that money to the bank once they find out the check/money order is fake (which can take up to a year). Either way it's still a scam and possible bad times for you.

Classic scam-they want you to refund the balance-only the original isn't worth anything...

No one buys a mid 80's car using a agent unless it is a Barrett Jackson car so when the word "client" is used it is a scam. "Client" is used in most all schemes. Dead ringer.

My Mercedes is for sale and I got one of the same e-mails. I just told them to Western Union *me* the full funds and I'd be happy to release it after that. Funny.. the e-mails quit after that!

Scam.....

I've gotten plenty of those myself, but I'm suprised you haven't sold your 944 yet. Just avoid deals that sound too good, and any emails with "client" and "shipping agent" should be avoided.

Of course it isn't a scam ..just have him wire transfer ten thousand dollars to you because it is the only amount you are allowed to receive and offer to send him a "us certified cashier check" for 4800. :-)
