Clock Light Bulb Removal
First of all i searched, yet could not find the answer to my specific question.
How do you remove the bulb from my 85.5+ clock, and where can i buy one. does it just pull off? i'm scared of breaking it though...

I just happened to have pictures from the last time I did this.
You need to remove the clock, as per Clark's: http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-08.htm . And then remove the bulb with bulb holder by twisting it (see pic). While it is possible to replace just the bulb (from you local auto parts store, see pic -- sorry, forgot the part number), it's a pain because it's soldered on. You are much better replacing the entire bulb/bulb holder assembly -- I hear you can get it from the dealer.

The part number for the bulb/holder assembly is: 944.641.900.00 and an equivilant is OSRAM 12/1.2
A 5/16 open end wrench fits the holder plastic base for the 90' counterclockwise turn required to release the bulb/holder assembly from the circuit board. Hope this helps as I did this sometime ago and it makes a big difference; a visible clock

The OSRAM 12/1.2 is on the bottom of the plastic base and is the part numbers for the complete bulb/base assembly. I purchased mine at a local import parts independant dealer and was told that this part is also used by BMW and Merecedes.

josephsc- i found that bulb in your pic at autozone, but it's wires aren't long enough to touch the sotter in the clock. i totally demolished all of the old bulb structure also. any ideas on how to get the wires to touch the connections?

No idea -- my bulbs came with wires that were long enough to solder back on. But even that was a huge pain. I'd go with getting it pre-assembled (it's like a $5 part at Pelican or cannibalize it off a dead instrument cluster).

Somewhat on this topic: has anyone heard of the clock wiring for the light being bad? I just bought a new clock and the clock works fine, but I realized last night that the light doesn't work. I stole the light from my broken clock (which had been working before I took it out), but that bulb didn't work either. So out of curiosity I hooked up the old clock and it now doesn't light up with either bulb. Are these bulbs easy to kill from being shaked around a little or can the wiring in the clocks die?
Thanks for any info.
