Reasonable parts car price
I went to look at a parts car today. I am wondering what is reasonable offer for such a car?
Here's the lowdown...
It is an 86 Na, black with sunroof.
-Enigine is shot, #2 cyliner failure, no oil pickup
-Some body rust, not much and mostly all surface
-Has been sitting in a garage untouched for 4 years
-Interior has some mildew/mold but not too bad
-Body is straight with very few dents.
-Roughly 150k in miles
-Don't know about tranny.
-Car is complete.
Any thoughts?

Devon, are you serious about $200? I was thinking the 750 was probably fair considering he was orignally asking 2000, which I know is high.

I dunno, I got a parts car that was in a collision which took out teh left front fender, and it was just missing the transmission, for 100 bucks. I put the whole interior and engine in my car.. I think i was lucky though. 500 is probably realistic though. If he was asking 2k originally, you probably won't get him below 1k though. 750 might be a good idea

i bought a running 944 that got in a front end accident for $350.. and a 88 944S the other day with a broken cam chain and ruined head for $750.. i would offer about $400 or maybe even a bit lower for what you have there.

$200. The thing has been sitting a garage for 4 years with a busted engine? Its not going to sell for anymore than that. Don't be shy and put on your best horse trader face and understand his option is to call up the wreckers and he might get 50 bucks. Go for it.

Yep $200.
ON a parts car the engine is worth the most. Once that is gone the rest is not worth much more.
Now yes the parts value is far more, but you will need to store it and take parts off of it and it will take time. Remember there are not people lined up knocking down doors looking for old broken engine 944's.
Off that $200 plus what ever it costs to drag it way. If he does not bite, walk. Hey you can always ask about it in 3 months. At that time $200 maybe more reasonable just to take it away.

Unless the guy is a good friend and needs the money to make rent, go as low as possible.
Having a fist full of twenties works better than showing 2 $100 bills. I always do the fan the cash out trick, people can't seem to resist it. Like goldfish coming to the top for food. Their eyes even bulge out.
Hope nobody ever pulls this despicable act on me!!

Past a certain point, parts cars don't go down much even with rust or busted engine. I would say anything less than $500 is a good price. The wheels $200, cylinder head $100, DME $75, clock and climate control $175 will cover your costs if you want to sell them and get the rest of the car for free. You can't lose for $500 but if the person will sell it for less, its added bonus.

i don't think you should pay any more than 500. So if you offer that to start you are looking at him negotiating you up a bit. Start lower, and go no higher than 500. Look we have another member on here who just bought one for 600 but it runs.
If you start at 500, do not negotiate. it is 500 or nothing..... You should not pay any more for the car.

So the guy sold it out beneath me after I offered to buy it and pick it up, I'm kinda pissed. So, if anyone has a reasonable and complete parts car in the tri-state or pittsburgh area let me know.
