Default Steering wheel airbag delete

Well I put in the momo that has been gracing my living room for the last three weeks. In my attempt to get the airbag light out I "thought" that an airbag simulator from airbagsystems.com would do the trick.

http://www.airbagsystems.com/disconnect.htm

Well it was a nice idea. The "simulator" is a couple of clamps that you install between the two wires that would go into the back of the air bag. I got the wheel apart and off The L bracket installed to make my horn work and the "airbag simulator" tied in. I cranked the engine over and... the air bag light was still on, as is the " ! " master caution warning.

So now it looks like it is back to the drawing board to get the light shut off.

You may want to try searching on my name "runnin' on empty" as I did an airbag removal some months ago and clipped wires on the airbag control unit to eliminate the lights; while maintaining the gas cutoff in case of impact (nee accident).

Just recently did mine. Unhook the harness at the controller. On the car side of the harness, jump wires 3 and 4 (they're numbered). To jump, just take a 2" piece of wire, strip 1/4" off each end, and jam an end into the 3 hole, and the other end into the 4 hole. Tape it up really well so the wire doesn't come lose. Leave the harness disconnected, and zip tie the ends to something so it's not flopping around. No airbags and no warning light. Plus, without clipping any wires, you can put the airbags back in if you want to at some point in the future.

On my '88, it's behind the glove box. It's orange. Just follow the wire from it and you'll see a round harness that snaps together. The harness is maybe 4-6 inches from the controller. As with all under-dash work, it helps to be a contortionist.

Jim, you figure out how to pull the controller off yet? I haven't tried. You pull the passenger airbag also? Was that straight forward, or hard?

Nah, I haven't pulled either yet. I've spent the last week working on the rear suspension. Too many projects, not enough time.

How cheap are you looking Matt? I have a black airbag wheel from my '87 that is in good shape. I can email you a pic if you'd like.

*EDIT* You need one without the airbag?
