Default How do you remove the cam belt tensioner?

To remove the timing belt tensioner, do you just remove the 2 nuts to the far right of it? I don't mean the 2 that release the tension but the 2 above and below the spring.

There are three nuts that has to be removed. You have to feel for them since you can't see it. The two on the right side which you already know and one more at the bottom of the tensioner. It's actually below the tensioner arm.

And behind an idler that mounts to the water pump which you have to remove to get to that third nut.

So, what is the service life of the water pump? I have it in the back of my mind to replace it, but how do I know when its necessary?

Mine had 90k on the clock before it was replaced. Then I replaced it again at 130k when my chain tensioner broke. I'm sure there are recommendations on the subject but who really knows?
Better safe than sorry. If you are digging into the front of the engine, it's a good thing to do while you're in there.

I go by the "every other belt change" rule with belt changes every 30k.
