Default Wheel spacer problem, help needed.

I have some 1.5 inch spacers on my car and under full boost i can hear a little rubbing coming from the rear. I asked the guy to send me some 1.25 inch and i couldn't even get them over the hub. So i thought the center hole wasn't cut good enough and called him back, he said i need to shave the inside of the fenders a little
He has been doing this for 20 years in FL so he is a trusted guy.

I asked him if i can get some 1 inch and he said if i couldn't get the 1.25 on that i definitely wouldn't get the 1 inch over the hub and keep it hubcentric.

I don't know where to turn next so im turning here, what should i do? I dont want to do any shaving!

Thanks guys.

Antonio

Sent you a pm - what are you doing with th e 1.5's? I may be of assistance here. (I have 1's" on the rear currently and I guarantee they will fit your 86 w zero issues.)

Yeah, the width of the spacer should not matter if it is designed correctly. Maybe you need a stiffer suspension to prevent the rear from squatting under accel.

So he sent you the 1.25's and they didnt fit? Heres a picture of 1" spacers from better bodies motorsports. I had them on the front and the rear w/ no issues: (Edit: Like Mike said - its got nothing to do with the width. Something else is wrong...)

Heres a couple pics of the 1.25", the circle i did is the part thats the problem. They don't fit over the hub/dustcap or whatever that is. You know what mean right?

The last pic shows how it looks with the 1.25", there is a gap and that gap is not there with the 1.5. The 1.5 is flush with the rotor head.

Why would he say the 1 inch wouldn't fit over the hub?

Maybe the 1" spacers he has are supposed to be used on another car with a 5x130mm bolt pattern, like a VW? Those spacers need to be machined out more.

Justin had this exact same problem and these look just like the ones he had. We would get them flush on one side and the other side would have a space, vice versa. We got his on using force which we probably shouldnt have but hey - it worked. They just need to be milled out a bit - it has nothing to do with the width.

Question: Are you exchanging your 1.5's or selling them? Cause I need a set.

Sam he is exchanging the 1.5's, and i agree with you the problem is not with the width its the size of the hole in the middle.
Right now the 1.5's are on the car and he sent me the 1.25. I was supposed to get those on and send him the 1.5's back. Well now i have 2 sets and none is right. The problem lies in the circumference. I think that needs to be about 2mm larger to go over the hub/dustcap(same thing right?).
That shouldn't be a problem right? Well the guy says its impossible to get 1" and get it to go over the hub. Someone tell me im not going nuts and that the guy doesn't know what the heck hes talking about. Sam you have hubcentric 1 inch, thats proof right there! He says you cant get hubcentric 1" spacers on a 944 because they have a very large hub.
Im confused!

Sam i sent him a picture of your 1" spacer, here is what he wrote back:

"We make ours with a pre-determined amount of aluminum holding the outer
hub on. The one in the pic looks a little to risky for me. Not willing to
take that chance"

SOMEONE TELL ME YOU CAN GET 1" SPACERS ON A 86 944!!!

Just send him the 1.25's back, and trade your 1.5's to Sam

Thats what i think im going to end up doing Tifo.
I just got of the phone with the guy and he said he owns 10 homes and a bunch of show cars, 1 inch spacers are unsafe and he doesn't want to be liable(???).
He saw the pictures of Sams spacers and said they are modified and drilled(again, ???) and not safe.
He keeps on saying "pre-determined amount of aluminum holding the outer hub on"
Am i going crazy or is this guy wierd?

Edit: I think i might have something worked out. Im going to take the 1.25" spacers to a machine shop here in town and he is going to measure the hole of the 1.5 and machine it to fit the car.
Ill send the 1.5" back to the guy i bought them from and keep the 1.25, IF for some reason they still don't work would you still want to trade for some 1.25' Sam?

Tell him since mine are so unsafe that he needs to sell me your "used" 1.5" spacers for a discount. Im not sure 1.25 will bring my rears out to where I want them to be...it would help, but Im looking for a 1.5 I think. Whats this guys email address? I have autoxed this car numerous times and have been running these spacers for over 5 years now. I think he's just trying to put his product on a pedestal.

I have 1" Porsche 911 spacers all around on my 86 944 turbo and they fit the back fine, but when it came to the front they would not clear the dust cap, interferred on the back end. So I just had them machined down slightly and fit like a charm. No problem at speeds, well...really fast.

Of course if it were up to me I would go 1.5".
