Default all who have put on a new crest...

what's the best, and easiest way to keep the gasket around the crest as it's being pressed into place? I'm trying to strech the gasket around it before putting it home, but to no avail. considered glueing the crest to the gasket with super glue in the 3 corners, but not willing to risk getting a gluey fingerprint on my new crest... what did you guys do?

I pressed it down until almost snug. Then used a small screwdriver and toothpick to pull it around the edges. It took about 10-15 minutes to get it right...then WHAMO! pressd it down tight!

I put the gasket loosely on the back side of the creast and then when I was preesing in the crest i just moved the gasket around until it was lined up.

Hair dryer works best... get that sucker hotter than hot and put it on before it cools.

does anyone know how to undo the welds that hold on the nose panel on a '83 944? going through clarks garage said you have to drill them out, but i'm not familiar with that process. ( i also need to replace my crest)

thanks,
ed

The best way to keep the gasket on is to buy one from the dealer. They don't have to be stretched and are a lot stouter than the crap gaskets that come with the aftermarket crests.

Bought mine from the dealer and the gasket was still a very tight fit, just FYI.

Soak the gasket in hot hot water before putting it on. This should cause the rubber to be more malleable and easier to stretch over the crest.

Looking back at when I replaced the crest on my car I wish I had spent the extra time to take header panel off and do it right. Definitely would be worth the extra time that is required to what I have now which is a gasket that doesn't fit correctly.

That's too bad Geoff. I was scared that was going to happen. I took mine off 3 times because it wouldn't go on right. That's why I eventually came up with the blow dryer idea.

Post up some pics of your new work or is that in the other thread?
