Default so when the heater core went bad...

shouldn't the coolant be leaking?

steam came out, water all over the engine bay and on the ground, and just a few drops inside the car.

it happened a few months ago and so far no leaks, no over-heating, and such

is there something I should do to prevent leaking etc?

Check the hoses to the heater core, they sound like the more likely culprit right now.

Yeah, the hose from the back of the block to the firewall is where I would look first. Nobody ever sees it so it never gets serviced. Plus it is very hard to replace.

The one that goes onto the metal tube isn't so bad to change, but the one from the heater valve is absolutely painful, especially if it's a turbo.
But they are often neglected, and frequently original.

I still don't get why it's not leaking.

I don't even want the heater core so I'm not too inclined to do anything with it (other than remove it all when the time comes)

I was just worried if it could do any particular damage or anything.

it's a 968 engine btw

Check the lines.
No point in pulling the heater core, it doesn't take up much weight, and it doesn't really let you get rid of anything else.

You don't get why it's not leaking?.. I don't understand, I thought you said it WAS leaking...

Keep the heater core. Even race cars need defrost sometimes.

mmm...I thought they weighed a lot. defrost would be good too.

it only leaked when it broke, I'm not sure if the PO fixed it when he took it home or the shop fixed it.

I know it doesn't blow heat though.

OK.......not really getting the point of your asking here.

Maintenance is maintenance. Preventitive maintenance....on this would be, look the whole system over, and fix, replace what "needs and should be" replaced.

No hot air? Lots of reasons. Simplist........broken linkage rod under dash. Hardest....plugged up heater core.

IMO, heater core, is NOT an item to just *****-nilly delete, for any length of time.
Your choices may be different, however, depending on what your doing with the car. Ever look at Clark's garage for assistance in troubleshooting cooling system, and or heater problems?
