I was an impressionable kid when the 944 first came out. I was already a Porsche admirer with the 930, 934, etc. The 944 represented an attainable entry to the brand. I cut a double page ad of the 83 944 and kept it in my school bag for a year or so. This is perhaps my incubation period for the model.

Fast forwarding a little bit, I was able to afford my first Porsche in 1991 (72 911T) and viewed it as a stepping stone to my ultimate dream road car - the 930. Over 10 P cars later, I got my 930 and was thoroughly disappointed with its handling, gearbox and turbo lag. This was the start of my departure from the 911 platform as a toy car (Though I've had a couple of daily driver 911s afterwards). Why is this significant? Well, I think it is ironic that Porsche's entry level model is what I prefer to drive now over the "higher" models from the same period.

Funny thing is that the 944 was not really in my radar again until I bought my first factory Porsche race car in 2008 - 944 Club Sport model for the Rothmans series. Realizing the virtues of its handling, etc., I'd love to experience other 924/944 based factory race cars (and other mid-engine P race cars).

28 now, First car I ever bought. I've had it since I was 15. Best part is I've only managed to put ~30k miles on it. I've always had a second car, sometimes way nicer than the 944, but I've always kept her cause she is my first.

i'm 20 years old, a college student, and i just bought my first porsche this past fall. havent been able to enjoy her much yet as winter isn't very car friendly in new york. I had always been a fan of 944's and i was driving to go look at a car for a friend when i noticed a pretty lil' 944 sitting at a small used car dealership in a small town in the middle of nowhere. i thought to myself..i might as well stop and check it out...she was a one owner 88' n/a with 55k miles. very clean. asking price was 5999. i thought to myself...i might as well see if i can take it for a drive. bad decision...very bad....i knew a twisty road a mile away...that's right where i went. i was hooked. what a blast to drive! i hid my excitement from the dealer of course and went on my way to check out the car for my friend. The whole time i couldn't stop thinking about it. i stopped on the way back and took it out for another spin. decided it was fate and talked the dealer down to 4900. Now i'm just waiting for it to stop snowing in NY so i can enjoy her again!

On a side note i'd like to add that my overall experience with porsche owners/enthusiasts/rennlist/pca has been VERY positive. It's great to have a fun car, but memories are made when great cars and great people come together. So to that...i look forward to becoming more involved here and in local events!

43, own 2. Have owned 6 off and on. I worked as a bagged boy in at a grocery store as a kid and a female customer had an maroon 944 n/a. I use to put the groceries in her car. I sad I had to have it. It was the fender flares I think. Very uncommon back then for a car. I'm on my way out though. I am looking for a low mile S2/968, then I'm moving on to 911's. Its just time. Good 944's are becoming harder to find.

I'm 30 and on my second 944. To be honest, I never really thought much of the 944 and considered it a "wannabe" Porsche for a long time. But I happened to be shopping for a new ride a few years back, looking for something simple, lightweight, and sporty. I was doing my damndest to find a clean E30 BMW with no luck, when I just happened to find a Garnet Red '84 with Fuchs, LSD, and sport seats. It was in rough shape but I fell in love during the test drive.

That one ended up being a lost cause thanks to PO "maintenance," and I had to part it out. But I was on the hunt for a replacement right away and found my S. I've been driving and building her up for the last few years and this one's a keeper.

2nd car: 1986 944 na.........purchased new with 26 miles.............now up to 290,000 (never selling)

The NA was my first car that I bought with my own money and has taught me priceless lessons along the way. It came under my ownership as a retired track day car, and I've made it pretty nice. It's a daily now and I'll never sell.

My 951 is a project for sure but I got a fantastic deal on it and am slowly turning it into a street monster, no corners cut.

Always loved cars especially Porsche. 1st Porsche was a 1980 924 turbo I had when I was about 24 and a poor college student living in the west coast. Finally back to the brand when I pursched a 1991 S2 from a neighbor with 63k miles almost a year ago. Oringinal owner! I feel blessed! Having fun sorting the car and catching up on the maintenance. It a blast to drive. I guess she'll put away for the Ohio winter soon.

My 924 relationship started 13 years ago with a 924NA 125hp european model.

I"m 61 , I picked up my first Porsche last year after surviving a serious motorcycle accident ( 2 months in the hospital) . The settlement allowed me to make the transition . I've always loved Porsches , my first model I built as a kid was a 904. I've had Muscle cars , but nothing with the handling precision like my 2011 987s . I was lucky the prior owner put R suspensionand an LSD on it . I absolutely love the looks , handling and performance, truly a dream come true

1st was a 1985.5 maroon one and I wish I never would have sold it!!!

2nd is my project car/ track car 1988 944.... needs lots of help but a fun project.

My first 944 I bought new, was 32 years old this past February ( still own it ) .... I ordered it just out of college: you do the math ( it gets depressing if one thinks about it too much ) j.k. , been a GREAT life.

Have added 8 more N/As in various option groups, but with emphasis on M456, LSD, Sunroof delete, or Sport Touring packages. An '89 - 951 with very low mileage, a 914 - 2.0 litre, a Carrera and a few other 'furrin' and American sports cars. None are automatic, PDK, or paddle shifters. I am looking for an equally great S2 Cab and a 968 cpe.

I spend as much time @ the track, either on it or observing as time, money, and other obligations allow. Either in the Midwest, or West Coast, or Florida. My new full face helmet came a few days ago and am waiting for the painter to give it his special touch. ( looking forward to attending the Rolex 24 in a few months, then Sebring. )

I love ALL Porsches, but have a special love for the 4 models I pay most attention to. The '44, 951, the teeners, and 911s. There is nothing like the song of a flat six @ wide open throttle. Nothing like the smoothness and dynamic tractability of a 951. Nor the adrenalin rush of a slower momentum car like a 914 or 944 drifting an apex as it scrubs away speed, carrying it's mass thru a well planned corner, as poetically as your courage allows.

They are ALL so much better than we will ever aspire to.

Owned everything from a couple old Datsuns, Honda Civic, a few Jeep Wranglers, to a 1981 F-Car 308gtbi with my current DD being a MB C-Class coupe. Overall, I was never a Porsche fan with the exception of the early 928's, however; my wife fell in love with the 944 in that John Hughes movie "Sixteen Candles." "Ok, ok, ok dear, let's go find one." After a couple test drives, I figured why not.

It's been 4.5 yrs with her (the car) and I'm very happy...
