Announcing the Renntreffen Jello Shot Sensei!
Drum roll please...
After much witty repartee and anticipation, I am honored to announce the winner of the First Annual Jello Shot competition. We sampled darned near 150 jello shots during the competition, and judges were bribed with about another 200 more over the weekend! They came in various shapes, sizes and alcoholic content (and responsible drinking/driving was enforced). When the dust had settled, an obvious winner had earned the right to declare themselves the Ultimate Jello SHot Sensei. That person is...
(scroll down)
Wade! Congratulations, dude, you earned it!
(Pics of the contest will be posted as soon as some one downloads them... I didn'thave a camera handy!)
Honorable mention for second place goes to Mike ("Cap't") Morgan, who came pretty darned close to usurping Wade. Many thanks to Dr. Nick ("Kovorkian"), Dina, Michelle, Mary, Lin and Cheryl for their efforts, no one was a loser at this contest!
Regards,

Actually, I think Chuck and I may have been the losers the next morning. Just the thought of Jello, or possibly the sound of Bill Cosby's voice......ouch......

Congratulations again on your win- you deserved it!
(So, what is my punishment? )
I think there should have been an award for the person that downed the most jello shots- by far your brother Chuck is the winner there....He put down an amazing amount!
I had a great time this weekend- thanks to all of the KCWS members that showed such great hospitality! This competition was a blast!

Always looking for a great jello shot!
The biggest secret to ours is using gelatin sheets, not granulated jello or regular boxed jello.....these can be found on the internet, or in our case, make friends with your friendly local bakery, and they'll work with ya cheap!!! (Thanks again, Cocoa Bean- we love ya!!)
Carmel Apple: Sour Apple Pucker and Buttershots to taste; make enough for one cup of liquid (one BIG shot!) and then add one gelatin sheet to dissolve.
Summer Breeze: for two cups: 3/4 cup OJ; 3/4 cup Cranberry juice; 1/2 cup pineapple rum; 2 gelatin sheets dissolved.
Velvet Monkey: This one is harder to mix, because I had to multiply a martini. Here's the martini amounts; have fun making it work!
2 ounces peach schnapps
1 ounce vanilla vodka
1/2 ounce chambord
cranberry juice to taste.
enough sheet gelatin to be about 1 sheet per cup.
Permafrost: exactly as Yukon Jack made it! (For those of you who don't know what this is, Permafrost is a mix of cinnamon and peppermint schnapps- very refreshing!!!)
This is not for the weak!!!
This one also takes, as my son would say, "A butt load" of gelatin sheets to actually make it into a jello shot! 100 proof alcohol does NOT like to become gelatinized very well.....
Enjoy!

"This study utilized 80 proof (40% alcohol) vodka and Jell-O brand gelatin dessert of various flavors.....to this end, we made over two dozen batches of Jell-O shots, and exhausted the contents of nearly five 1.75 liter bottles of vodka."
Bah!!!
We've done more than this amount in the motorhome in one night during Formula One weekend at Indy (which was the basis for a lot of my research).
Very interesting read though. I see it takes others longer to discover a secret that I learned early on.......which also extrapolates to cooking in general....
"Why use water or other inert ingredients when you can add things that actually have FLAVOR."
i.e., use FRUIT JUICE instead of water.....especially at higher alcohol levels.
(The winning shots were 50% rum, but really didn't taste like it...)
By the way Scott, I just revealed to Nick that I am retiring with the title....it'll be up to the other grasshoppers next year.
I'm sure I'll bring a few, but Chuck and I will be only consuming, not competing.
See ya' then........can't wait!
