Default Brake Dust and chrome lipped fuchs = bad combo

So I admit I kinda neglected cleaning my wheels during the winter, hey it was cold.. and now that its summer and I have time I tried to clean the massive amounts of break dust off my wheels, It turns out it is like fused to the wheels. I tried regular car soap and wheel cleaner with a wheel brush, nothing is getting it off. Does anyone know anything that will take the baked on break dust off of my wheels??

purple dragon, castarol super clean, any general degreaser from the hardware store. just be careful not to use too much, it will ruin paint. DOn't leave it on too long, but it will clean wheels like crazy!

I have used 2000 grit wet sandpaper to get really stuck on crap off my polished lips. (Think snow/salt/brake dust)

Geez! You can even drink shoe polish if you get desperate! Just melt and filter through a loaf of bread!!
Forgive me! I was a sailor!

Spray brake cleaner takes off damn near anything. I always keep a few cans on hand. It's also a good parts de-greaser.

Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner ($5 at WalMart) is about as strong a wheel cleaner as you can find and would want to use. Wet the wheel down, spray it on and leave it for 30 seconds.the brush really well. I use a soft toothbursh to reach the hard to get at places. After that try some detailer's clay. to remove some of the embedded particles.

During those harsh winters, you might try running the car through one of those touchless car washes every few weeks. The kind that has the rocker cleaner and underbody wash.

Another idea. When you finally get them clean, look for some kind of polymer sealant to apply to the wheels. Less dust will not stick to the wheels. Wax melts too easy, so stay away from that. I use Klasse. Some people use Zaino, too.
