The stainless steel lines as they are usually referred to are all really teflon hoses. The teflon is flexible and combined with the the stainless steel braid over it, does not expand. But the teflon can kink if not routed properly, especially at the connectors. The DOT ones have had that addressed. Also, when you have one in your hands, you can readily see that it flexes but cannot be twisted. A rubber hose can take some twist but the teflon hose cannot. The routing to the caliper is critical and the hose cannot twist as the suspension moves.
