Default Porsche PET question

Does anyone know if PET will run on a Linux 9 machine? I am getting ready to build my shop PC and would like to run Linux 9 if PET will run.

Thanks,

Jason

Yes. I think it will but you might have to have a aditional loader program.

Hey Jason, You got a PM.

Give WINE a try, its an extra program that you run that will let you run an assortment of windows programs. I dont see any reason it shouldnt run, it isnt an overly complex program nor does it need all kinds of graphics programming calls. Its basically a picture program with an interface.

WINE is an interesting idea -- I'll have to try loading PET upto my work computer (Mandrake 10) later this week. Jason I'll let you know if it works.

Don't forget PET requires the OLE server extensions.. can you do that in Linux? I wish I could learn how to use Red Hat... have it right here.

The OLE stuff I couldnt say off the top of my head. Ill see if I can run PET using WINE on my server at home... Hopefully it has enough hard drive room

Red Hat actually isnt too bad to learn, they have excellent documentation.

I did not spend a lot of time trying to make it work ... but I was unable to get PET to run using WINE on Fedora Core 2.

yes it will. just don't forget the resolution requirements - pet cannot effectively resize itself so you have to run at a desktop resolution of 1280x1024 or higher in order to run the program

You should be able to run it on Fedora Core 2 with wine. I can't give it a shot ATM, but perhaps later in the day I can try.
There are other windows emulators out there, I can't think of the names of any, but try giving a different one a shot.

Mind if I ask, what in particular failed when trying it? What errors did you get?...

Zero10:
I do not remember what the problem was when I tried to run it on FC2. It has been a few months since I tried it. I still have everything installed on my laptop (dual booting, currently using PET in XP on a fat32 partition) ... I'll try it again when I get home and let you know.

LOL, Me too, I dual boot on my laptop with fedora core 3 RC2 right now, I'm one of those have-to-have the latest guys, although I know RC2 is outdated now.

I can't think of anything off hand that would make it different from almost any other windows app.
