924S in tank filter

924S in tank filter
We are having a fuel delivery problem. We can dive on the highway at 3,000 RPM all day. But after a few blast to 6,000 RPM it feels like the engine is starving for fuel. We already replaced the external gas filter and the fuel pump, the problem is better but it still there.
Is there an in-tank filter that we also need to replace?
Any help would be appriciated.
Regards,
MJ & JJ

some of them do have an in tank filter. Look at where the supply line comes out of the tank and see if there is a hex head behind where the tube connects. If there is on there then it's a filter and you can drain the tank and just unscrew it. If not there is no filter and I would do a check and make sure you have enough fuel pressure and volume.

Yes, there is a fuel filter/screen attached to the very bottom outlet of the fuel tank. Part number I have for it is 928 201 081 04 for filter, 928 201 187 02 for gasket seal.
All the ones I've seen are the Purolator Filter # PM 4211 (M37x1.5).
I've heard of some people having problems with these being pretty badly pluged up. I removed one from a parts car tank (early steel tank), and it was looking pretty nasty. I would think you could just clean em up, and reinstall it, if the screen isn't tore up. But I'd only consider this if you can get your hands on another gasket for it. I haven't had a chance to price them out yet. I need to do this when I drop the tank out of my '83. My parts and reference book says that this filter is the same for all these cars (book covers up to 1988).

My 85/2 parts car (with plastic tank) had this filter also. My book says 924/ T 1977-1978, and 944/S/944T 1983-1988 (All years), use the same filter/screen. May go later......and I'm pretty sure it does. Easy to replace, just need to drain tank all the way out.
