josephsc - the CV joint rebuild kits are not that expensive. IIRC, i paid about $80 to rebuild all four of my CV joints, vs $150 per side for a rebuilt axle. it does save some money to do it yourself.

pymlang - make sure you purchase new CV joint bolts!! you don't want one of those old ones snapping when you're nearly finished with the job. in fact, just purchase an entire rebuild kit - www.paragon-products.com has them and they have everything you need except the bolts (you need 6 triple square bolts per joint, or 24 all together). and you'll need a "triple square internal socket." start looking now.
