Combined hwy and city, about 22-24 mpg. On highway road trips 29-30mph. The car seems to get better mpg when filled with Mobil or Shell 93 octane. I tried 89 octane and the mileage dropped.

Hey fellas who are getting crappy mileage, try this:
- Stock air filter
- Stock chip (!!!!!!!! a lot of chips don't do anything more than change the torque curve a little and waste a lot of gas !!!!!!)
- Stock (Beru) wires
- Stock cap
- WR8DS Bosch Silber plugs (OE)
- Proper inflation of tires (29F/36R)
- don't go cheap on the tires; get something decent
- properly tensioned belts (alternator/AC, p-steering)
- wheel bearings in good shape? Properly greased & snugged?
- Brakes not hanging up/dragging a little?
- I agree with the above post on Shell 93. Car is smoother + 1 or 2 mpg more than, ubiquitous-in-ohio BP stations.
- if you got it, use CRUISE CONTROL on the highway - you have to really concentrate to keep the mpg gauge in the range that the cc can!
Seriously, these little things can add up!
Cheers,

We have an idiot light for fuel? I just figured there wasnt one... it has never come on; even when the gauge dips below the bottom mark. Then again; I think the most I have ever filled with is 19 gallons.

With proper fuel mixture (able to pass stringent Ca. smog), the least I got is 18 and most is 27 out of several hundred thousands of miles of driving and many many 944s and 951s. I have gotten 30 one time all highway running lean, which is not good for the engine. Unless one is going downhill most of the time, I find it very hard to believe 30 mpg is obtainable without running lean.

Since installing FRWilk's chip (a good thing), I'm lucky to reach 15mpg.
Previous to that, the Euro motor sat at or above 25mpg.
These are real values from doing the math over a few thousand miles (not many miles actually).

I've just discovered that UK Porsche owners get better gas milage because the Imperial Gallon is greater than the US Gallon by about 3/4 of a litre!!!!
Suddenly my milage doesn't look that great...... lol

Interestingly, my 968 does not get the highway mileage that my S2 did.
S2 could get up to 29-30 mpg if I cruised at 70-75.
968 so far does not get better than 25-26.
Of course the 968 is harder to drive at just 70-75.

average 25mpg- 50/50 highway and city. I use 93 octane and run Techron thru the tank about every 4 months. During the Techron tank I will get over 30 mpg on the highway.

Call me ****, but I record fuel at every fill on a 3x5 card in each of my 8 cars and trucks.
My 944 turbo has averaged 21.0 mpg the last 11 fillups which was total 3200 miles. Mostly summer driving, very little spring and fall and no winter. worst was 16.5mpg, best was 24.9mpg. I drive spirited but not crazy.
The way you drive has everything to do with mileage. My 1970 911S gets about 7mpg on racetracks for DE's, but it has gotten a best of 25mpg on Interstates doing 60mph during Arab oil embargo in 1974 when you could only buy gas every other day according to odd or even license plate number. Those were the "bad old days"!
On a two day 2330 mile trip from Rochester to Phoenix I was able to easily go well over 500 miles on a tank without getting the low fuel warning light to come on. When on long trips, the car easily gets over 25mpg.

I've seen 13.5 to 28.5 in the s2, it is 968 swapped and it does love gas. I get 16 to 18 in my daily routine vs 19 to 21 that my S got. The S would only drop to 17 when I drove it hard through a full tank.
