My coolant always runs back over the engine, due to how it sits when i bleed the system. I have never had it run behind the timing belt cover.
Mine has leaked down the back of the timing belt cover.

If you don't believe that this is the problem, before you go spending money replacing the water pump, take the timing belt covers off, start the car, run it for awhile, shut it off and look for leaks. Do this without touching that bleeder bolt.
