One, unless you're looking at buying Corsa's, don't buy pirelli tires. You can do sooo much better for 500. especially on 15 inch wheels, which the NA will probably have.

You'll have to remind me of the quote... I don't seem to recal... and HA! NZ951, looks like she's Los Angeles bound, instead of New Zeland!

Trust me, I know about catching flak. My friends just don't stop, that is until they can't keep up with me anywhere. (not that I race on the street, but I will be at Buttonwillow this weekend)

There isn't a "buy it now" option so I have no choice but to wait to see how the bidding goes. I'm going to contact the seller and see if s/he will have it inspected if my dad ok's that kind of initial cost (for some reasons he is more open to cheap car and spending money on it afterwards) or if s/he will accept my bid assuming I win on the condition it receives an acceptable inspection.

Hacker-Pschorr, assuming you sell, when do you think your car would be for sale?

Well I recommended more spending more 4k, but I did not realize you has sun an extensive list of upkeep dollars.

That said I also would not buy I car that I was going to repaint. Just not worth it cost wise. Red.. is VERY common!

my 944 Turbo is Red,
My 84 944 daily driver (former show car) is RED
my 84 race car is RED,
my 924S Parts car is RED
My father 944 Turbo is RED...

I was never looking for "red" car, they just came -up.
My friend Paul's 83 was Red
His 944 Turbo was Red
Another friend had an 87 turbo RED
and now has an 91 Cab RED
and 968 RED...

my 83 is saphire blue however

So find nice red car.

It is good idea to keep the $2000 maitence dollars. Smart
For tires get Yoko ES100's. Nice tires, good price.

You may also want to check 83-85 cars. It is really a personal perference on the interior.

Do buy the BEST example you can. Heck if I sold my 84 77k mile daily driver which was 5 or 6 time Porsche concour (cleanliness show) winner a year ago I be happy with $6500!

Don't settle.

Oh... the K&N is not worth $45... just get regular paper. That is what I use on my race car.

doubt you would be interested but my car is in the classifieds. it's under "Sleeper". it is still having work done right now to make it acceptable to sell. but i am getting to the things one at a time. the interior will be 7.5 out of ten when done (it has dash cracks) the exterior i would say 7.5 also. it has just two spots of fading on the hood. but other then that it has the normal chips from rocks etc. i think once i wax it again it will have a nice shine. so much so a new paint job wont be needed.

its the 88' 944 S posted on 3/26 for 6K

Welcome aboard!
Let me know if you need anything up in CT... or the NorthEast.

With that paint budget you could teach yourself to paint and buy a DAMN good sprayer / compressor / paint setup.
You might enjoy it - I've really loved (hated?) it.

Lisa,

Like everyone else has been saying, don't rush and buy the first car you see. I made that mistake and I ended up buying the first car I saw, and it took me about 3 years of owning it and waiting for stuff to break before I got the thing running right. The best thing to do would be to read this site for several hours a night for a month...just doing that will get you very versed on this car (and in automotive engineering in general), and then start looking for cars. I only wish I knew about this site before I bought my 951...

As far as your estimates for work needing to be done for the car after you get it, you did it absolutely correctly...I found that when I used to take the car to a mechanic, it always ended up costing 30-50% more than I was originally quoted, and now I do all my own work, I budget about 30-50% over what I think all the parts will cost me, and budget my time estimate at double of how long I think it will take.

I see 944's for sale all the time in my travels around Baltimore and on my commute to Salisbury, so next time I see one that fits your criteria, I'll give you a heads up. Good luck in your hunt...

I don't know if you checked other avenues for finding cars, but here are two that usually work well:

http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/r...ified=n&color=

http://www.cars.com/search/used/cc/s...certifiedOnly=

maryland...i used to live there...baltimore actually...didn't they change adventure world into a six flags? if so...that sucks major...i loved that place...1983...thats the year i was born...december actually...anyway...now that the niceties are out of the way...

Don't buy a 944...get a 951!! Turbo's rule....you'll love that boost...on that note...take their advice and make SURE you get a solid running car. I made that mistake and well, I haven't driven my car for more than a month in the year I have owned it. But once it is finished...oh boy...can't wait!!!
