Question 84 Paint codes

Our 84 has the paint code LM3V. The autobody shop and paint place only have references to LM3Y which is an 85 colour. How different are these colours and is there anywhere on the net that shows paint code samples ?

Thanks

Hmm, I see LM3V as Ruby Red Metallic for 1984. LM3Y in 1985 was Garnet Red. Shown here:

www.clarks-garage.com
search in the "body" section for paint codes.

My other 'source' is www.paintscratch.com, however they do not list LM3V as a 1984 code.

Big difference... My car is LM3V and Bretts Bcass944 is LM3Y.....The LM3V is much darker and richer...That is what you want....

I know Brett wishes his car was my color instead...

Try these:

http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/fo...car_detail.cfm

And put in LM3* as a wildcard and select Porsche. This is a good database.

Is your car a type of Garnet Red?

This also may help:

I think the tags your are reading from are printed in a dot-matrix pattern and the Y and V may look the same. I remember having the same problems when I pulled mine.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks guys. LeadFoot's reply was just what I needed to cancel the appointment tomorrow. I still can't find references at glasurit or sherwin williams for the LM3V colour even though it is listed. Found some traces that it might be a Volkswagen colour but still looking. Found another paint shop that will do the job without trying to change the paint code on me.

I have the same paint on my 84. It is a rare color, but it looks amazing! I got a pint of paint once, but it was from a paint specialty shop in town and I'm not sure which one any more.
