CyCloNe!’s 944 S Build Thread

I am sure this isn’t actual so don’t worry I’m not that stupid...usually. This car runs well but needs a full work up mechanically and cosmetically. Below are some pics from the pick up day to today and a list of upcoming work. Current Project is a cut and buff of the old paint still in progress.

Well made some more progress. Bought a buffer but thing was junk so this is all by hand at the moment. Looks a lot better than the starting point and really need to wash it and hit a few more spots. This was done with a terry cloth and 105 Heavy Cut Compound. Going to borrow my friends buffer for round 2 with the 205 Polish next. Also gona try the wax wheel on the double sided molding tape.

I think the answer is directly linked to how thick your wallet padding is... ;)

Lol thats probably true as well... I have a few swap parts currently and honestly was part of the reason i got rid of my last car. I didn’t want to cut up the body for the GT2 flares and put the engine in a 951 since they are low production. I understand the better starting point with the trans, brakes and suspension but just couldn’t do it for some reason, probably a unicorn would die in the galaxy if I did lol. I figure the cost will be close to the same either way. If I keep the 16v motor I will probably vems, exhaust, cams, s2 intake, pistons, rods and boost it which probably won’t be much different than the v8 swap. Just with vems, cams and s2 intake that probably puts me at the same cost. I can do the v8 for 4k currently since I already have a few parts.

Removed the upper back seat. I have a rear seat delete I made that will replace the bottom, just need to carpet it. Also took out spare tire and jack... everything adds up over time lol.

Tip of the S exhaust was breaking, got a regular NA one going on for now. Looks like only main difference is the resonator on the S catback.

Got a New/Used Front Cam Cover from Lart... I don’t know what was up with mine but it was looking like it might fall apart any minute. I know my top cam housing bolt isn’t in, it’s missing so getting a replacement tomorrow. I worry the back housing maybe stripped... O the joys of PO’s!

Well found out the wires for the fan resistors were cut off... did a quick repair to make sure everything works. I’ll go back and loom it later. Also found out the car appears to have rear turbo phonies on all 4 corners. I have two questions though.

1) what temp does the low speed fan come on? Both mine cut on at 3/4 on the temp gauge (pic in next post)
2) what part is missing here in the pic? Near the driver fender.

This is when both fans cut on currently.

That paint is what autobody experts refer to as DEAD.

as in Jacob Marley DEAD.

Lol, yes it is. Even before I cut and buffed it I knew I just need to respray it i was hoping it would be a smidge more presentable but that was all. The next question would be keep it at Guards Red or trying something else? I really liked my Rein Orange a lot but always like a clean bright white as well or maybe go Signal Green.

I absolutely adore Guards Red (my 951 is Guards Red), but it you're already painting the car and have the time and ability to do a quality color change I would totally take this opportunity to switch it up. From the near zero effort of my keyboard, I vote for a color change since it's your time and money :p My dream has always been Mexico Blue, but I would also go for Signal Green or a nice burnt orange in a big way.

I think what you are missing in that holder is the ABS connector.
I just painted my cab Carmine Red, wanted to stay in the Porsche family colors. If I strayed I would have painted it Sakhir Orange, like my ex e36 cab. With the curves on the 944 and the light changing properties of the paint, i think it would have turned out great

Not a Porsche color but...

I vote for Interlagos Blue. I love love love that color.

That new Audi green is also all kinds of amazing.

Got this bad boy in today... wasn’t going to get one yet but it was the cheapest I have seen listed in a long time and no broken mounting locations for fenders or batwing.
