New 951 owner, need info on pulling steering wheel with airbag
Just recently bought an 87 951, and the dash lights are super dim. I've reviewed the write ups for bulb replacement but all are on non airbag cars. I'm trying to find out how to safely remove the airbag wheel but find no write up. Could someone please direct me to a write up on that? Thanks!

Airbag
If that write up didn’t help, first step is to unplug the battery. Airbags can deploy and kill you. There are bolts on each side. Head are Allen if I remember. They are at about 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. After removing them the airbag comes out and it has a delicate plug that you unplug carefully. After that you remove steering wheel as normal. The dash is usually dim because the bulbs reflect off of a silver painted area on the plastic. It wears or flakes off. Renew it, there are threads about that. Again. Beware airbag removal. Even static electricity may ignite one and they are dangerous. I used a silver reflective tape on mine years ago and it’s still bright or bright as it ever was.

Burning Brakes
While airbags can be dangerous, they are not nuclear ordinance. Common sense prevails.
Disconnect the battery, wait about 20-30 minutes and go at it.
Place the air bag FACE UP (Porsche side) and set on ground away from your work area.
And do not turn on the ignition at any time with the battery connected and the airbag or instrument panel disconnected or you will get to spend several hours learning how to reset the airbag controller so the air bag light won't be on when you drive your car.
