I thought only the late cars had fender liners. What tires/wheels are you running?

Glad you had a good time!

Van - You know, it wasn't liners the tires were making contact with, but the inner fender. I am running 16x7 et23 fuch replicas with 205/55-16 RE71-R tires up front.

If you're going to stick with the 16" rims, I'd recommend the 205/45 tires. It's nearly 2" shorter, which lowers your CG, gives you a stiffer sidewall, reduces the rotating mass, more closely matches the original size, and probably won't rub under compression.

Van -

What size tire would you recommend for the rear (16x8) to go with that 205/45 front tire?

Van -

Also, if I went with a shorter tire, wouldn't that lower the car as well? Combined with the already 1" lower stance from the Welt springs, wouldn't the control arm angle be getting too much off horizontal and place pressure on the ball joint?

"Lowering" the car with tire size doesn't change the control arm angle.

For a street tire in a NA car, I'd go with a square tire setup (same size all around).

Assuming stock torsion bars (which tended to be soft regardless of year), I would start with 50% firm in the rear and 1.5 turns towards firm for the front. I may try what Van suggested earlier in the thread (full firm f/r) for my next track day and see how the car feels.
