964 and 944 Turbo/968 brakes interchangeable?
Apparently 964RS and 968 M030 rear rotors are the same part from the factory.
My question is this. Will anything that will bolt up to a 964 also bolt up to a non M030 944 Turbo/968? I can't find anything saying it will but it seems like it all will bolt right up. |

I thought the brakes in the 968 M030 package were the same as the 928 S4 which were also used on the 944 Turbo S and S2 with M030. |
I have the same understanding.
Porsche 928 GTS front calipers are the next size up in this family. I don't know how the 993 calipers stack up. IIRC, the 993 front and rear calipers are the same size. |
Rotors are the same, according to PET. That said, a 964 RS is pretty rare - rarer than a 968 M030.
According to PET, rear 968 calipers are 28/30 mm pistons. The 964 RS/Turbo rear calipers are 30/34. Some 964 front calipers are 36/44 - they are probably the same body as the M030 caliper (but I don't know for sure). That said, they are leading calipers so the crossover pipe and bleeders are reversed from a 968 application.

I think I have this solved. I hope I do because it's about to be ordered. If it works I'll end up with 380x32 front rotors with 8 piston calipers and 356x28 rear rotors with 6 piston calipers. If it goes to plan it all fits under an 18" wheel.

Have you measured everything? Unless the caliper is a low-profile motorsport caliper, it likely won't fit with a 380mm rotor inside 18" wheel. It's possible but not likely.

I was remembering the Cup setup being tighter. It isn't too extreme, but is close.

You'll just have to watch the wheel weights and leave room for wheel flex (wheels flex under cornering). I've heard of some extreme fitments that are fine static, but rub under cornering. Curious what calipers you're looking at. |
