Cable shift for a 944

Has anyone ever done this? I've tried everthing, It's still like stirring porridge. |
You mean two different axis cables, one each for shifting the transmission like a Honda...?
Sure it could be done with some custom brackets but the cables would have to be so long, the percentage of stretch would not be as accurate as the solid rod that the factory used. T |

only 944 shift lever bearing kit and short shifter at the back and it'll feel like the trans fork is attached to your hand.
if sloppy shifting, your **** is worn out. |
Why???

Second Spencer on the Only944 short shifter kit. Huge improvement over my old worn one. There is a fellow who wrote up a detailed rebuild thread in this forum, I can't recall exactly where it is but your shifter can be restored to factory original with some patience and a few cheap parts from the hardware store. I've never done it but I saved my old shifter just in case I ever get to the point I have nothing else to do on the car :).

Thought about having the long rod from shifter to trans shifter made from carbon tube with metal ends grafted in.
Would make shift effort lighter and as positive (at least) as factory. T |

T You're much more of a materials expert than I am, is it possible to make a durable and long lasting mechanical bond between the metal ends you suggest and a carbon fiber tube? That might be an impressive product for an enterprising person. |
Yeah, you've got something wrong with your linkage. Get under the car, have someone slowly move the shifter around in the "play area" and look at EVERY component (lever to rod, rod to trans input, trans input to plastic block, upper diagonal linkage ends, etc.). Start with what's most worn, then work your way up! You'll have it shifting like new in no time.

When I saw your reply, I was like what (?), who is he talking about with something so wrong with their linkage...? Went back up top, and saw it....:roflmao: "Like stirring porridge"..... :roflmao: again....! T |
The gentleman who did the overhaul on the linkage was ODonnell out of Houston. Great write up with pics here on R-list.

cable shift for 944
I did a cable shift for a 944 S2 trans-axle but it was because I had to (mid-engine).

are you the guy with the 911 engine, shorty torque tube, 944 trans, and modified 944 suspension in a bus?
|
WOW Dubcab… now that is just down right delicious!
Do you have a thread somewhere where we can check out your vehicle build? |
Tell me more about a "shorty torque tube".
