I think there may be some rubber flaps by the yellow arrows that have to be removed as well. There may have been screws by the pink arrows, too, but I'm not sure. I had to trim down the metal indicated by the pink arrows to clear the vents. Be sure to paint the bare metal. I then drilled holes on the new panel to match the mounts for the green arrows. I put screws back (at the blue arrows) to hold the ends into place. I had to use some washers as spacers since there was a bushing or something that didn't transfer over in my case. I also put in the green arrow screws where I drilled the holes. The yellow screws weren't reinstalled because I didn't take the time to cut those channels out and it didn't matter. I feel bad about posting a non performance modification – and, sure, removing the factory A/C, rear seats and wiper was def worth doing – but, honestly, replacing the stereo with this touchscreen Sony thing has been the best mod I've made. Because the stuff behind the screen is only 1U high, I didn't have to cut or modify anything, and I can restore that part of the dash to original if I ever want to. Apple CarPlay Compatible. "Hey Siri, play Atomic by Blondie" = 10% speed boost ;-) |

V2: Do you mind sharing what you went with for the aftermarket ECU? I have an S2 and there just don't seem to be too many options for it, compared to the 8V and Turbo cars. The only one I've found that seems like it would work is the Megasquirt solution, but they don't offer the Plug and Play option any more and it seems like I'd really need to dig into that particular rabbit hole. That's probably on the list for later, as I worry a lot about the old, unreplaceable electronics and want something more future proof.

There's a DIYPNP Megasquirt for the S2. It's a bit deceptive, as it will plug right in... after you solder every last transistor and capacitor onto the motherboard. Not quite an afternoon installation but technically it will plug right into the stock harness and start the car.
