Default Anyone have an unhealthy attachment to their car?!

So I just drove my car for the last time yesterday… Well until she has a turbo!

The afternoon stared with a nice drive up into the mountains to get in a few tight turns with the music just quiet enough that I could still hear the exhaust. She got a nice bath, another short drive, then I backed her into the garage to start pulling the engine. However, before I had even gotten to the carwash I started feeling strange, like I was about to take my kid to the hospital. I know all will be fine, and much better on the other side, but I couldn’t help but physically feeling out of sorts. I don’t know if it’s that I can’t drive her anymore, or I’m about to pull her heart out.. lol What’s my deal!?!

All I can say is there’s definitely something to be said about owning/driving a Porsche.. Ferdinand and Ferry got it right! I’ve driven 3 home, 10+ hours and each time I’m almost sad to get out of the car at the end. And until this one came home, I was still bitching, 15 years later for getting rid of the last one. What other car can make you feel that way? I say none!

Don't have any street cars anymore, but the way you know you own your true love is, the ones I've had are the only cars I ever turned around to look at while walking into a building/store/etc.

I’ve been lucky to have owned a number of cars that made me feel that way, Ur Quattro, AMG Hammer, E46 AC Schnitzer and more recently a CL55 AMG so for me it’s a German thing rather than exclusively Porsche, but I’m certainly familiar with the feeling.

I totally relate! My 87 turbo is under the knife right now for an engine pull and reseal, plus turbo upgrade. I procrastinated getting started because it was running like a beast and all I wanted to do was drive it. But it left a puddle of unmentionables every where I went, so it must be done! BTW, I had a black 968 before the 951 that met a terrible demise, but no injuries, other than my heart.

Lol. Fun topic.
Mostly my Porsche habit is unhealthy to my bank account.
I have two Porsches which helps allay the feeling of sadness when one is laid up for repairs or such because I can usually drive the other.

What’s almost as bad is our winter weather that prevents regular use for 3-5 months of the year.
The only real positive is that the cars feel “new” and “exciting” again come springtime. Those first few drives of the new year are pretty neat!

That's depending on who one asks about me... (-;}

Maybe. But I think I'm perfectly fine, and am looking for more.

I still have my first 944, brought home new in July of '84. And added 7 more along the way...... along with a 911 Carrera, a 914 - 2.0 litre, and a 951- M030. Two are track prepared, one at Weissach.

Never sold any yet either;

it would be like cutting off a limb.

I had a lot of cars and motorbikes before my first Porsche , a 944 S2. Sold to try more Porsche & missed them all to varying degrees. After cashing out of the air cool 911 Turbo i could have more than one at last. Settled on these 3 and cant imagine selling any of them now. Dont lust for the latest and greatest. We are going to grow old together ! My unhealthy cravings are now settled and healthy ?

but yes.

Finally a thread to address my problem. I had 6 cars last year. But new job lead to very little time to play with them. So I just sold a 928 I spent 2 years restoring. I broke my heart. But the money I got put my finances straight. Next up an 02 E430 I bought for my dad who is now too sick to drive. Then the hard choices 996tt, 951 or E55. The 930 stays. I have been eyeing a G55.

I think the more appropriate question is, among us car enthusiasts, who here has a healthy attachment to their car?

I know I do not.

And to Mike, I concur with your assessment!
