Engine Mounts: Order of Replacement
 

Chime in with your expertise: When you've replaced engine mounts have you attached the mounts to the crossbar first, the engine attachment points first, or have you punted and let someone else do it for you because you got frustrated with Porsche's "engineering"?

Seriously, looking for the best process.

Of course, check Clarke's garage. Last time I did mounts. I bolted up cross member with mounts attached. Then, with engine suspended with a cross bar above, I was able to use a pry bar or something to budge the engine into place enough to get the little bolts in. Wasn't that hard.

Clark's does a great job at disassembly. Getting together? Not so much. Perhaps I need to get rid of my frustration first, re-read the website, and go from there...

However, if someone has THE reassembly process down to a T, I'm all ears.

Yes with everything loose and the mounts bolted to the subframe, with a pry bar it's hard but not crazy difficult to pop them into place.

I found it helpful to have someone prying on the engine from above while I pried on the mount (loosely bolted to the crossmember) from below.

You'll have to get the mounts in position on the crossmember first, because there's a sort of ridge moulded into the rubber that needs to lock into the crossmember. I think it would be hard to get that into place with the mounts attached to the engine. Once you get that done, the bottom stud will have to be in place so you might as well start the nut. But don't snug it down yet. Then you can work on getting the engine into position and get the 2 upper bolts started while the mount is still slightly loose.
