Thinking about a 944 Turbo Project Car. Mtune and LR kit q's.

Hello everyone. This is going to be a long winded post.

I'm not entirely new to rennlist. I was registered long ago but forgot all login details. Used to own an 87 944S my dad and I used as a project car when I was in highschool. Eventually sold it for various reasons.

Currently just have a Mazdaspeed3. I've tinkered with the Mazda over the years. bolt on parts to e85 to bigger turbo now. Makes somewhere around 350 whp on the corn juice. I've been happy with that power but am ready for something rwd again.

Anyway, on to the point of this post. I'm strongly considering a 944 Turbo project car. The value has increased quite a bit over the last 8 years but I still want the 951 as much as ever.

The plan would be to find one in decent condition, go through all the maintenance and get a solid running car. Then throw the sink at it :) I like the idea of the lindsey racing kits.

I feel confident in all the mechanical work. My real questions are about tuning it. Searching around, I found this https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...-tunerpro.html. However it was written a while ago. I think I understand the concept. The ostrich acts as the "chip" and you just re-write data to the ostrich. Seems straight forward for cars running pump gas on stock injectors and stock maf's.

I see Mtune maf kit is distributed by Lindsay racing and comes with their kits http://roguetuning.com/951_maf_kit_m-tune%C2%A9 so is this basically acting as the ostrich would? The mtune plugs into the dme, and you flash the mtune? If you buy m tune by itself, it appears you can pick 80 or 160 lb injectors and engine displacement. If you were to just order the 400 whp kit from LR, what is sent? 80 or 160 lb injectors? And are you able to tweak the maps that come with it in tunepro?

I think that's enough questions for now.

I don't know how LR has changed the kits, but the original M-tune from Rogue had a fixed tune/chip unless you bought the separate tuner box, which was an Ostrich tuned via TunerPro...very easy to tune.

Is rogue ant/Josh still around? Some of the links on his site are broken.

So what I'm getting is M tune plugs into stock dme and the m tune uses data from the map sensor and sends it to the dme.... or you can run his upgraded ecu with m tune plugged in which works the same, but you can now easily log afr and boost pressure without splicing things up?
