944 Cab Rescue

Hi All,

Another 944 after a few years of absence. Not absent to Porsche, just sold a 928 and still own a 79 Manual, currently under resto. Found this cab by chance. Been sitting for a very long time. Guys son died and he parked the car and left it. I showed him a few pics of some of the cars I've done in the past and he was happy I'd bring it back to life. A few bucks changed hands and I now own another 944. Only have two crappy pics for now but will have more next week.
Planning to do all the front of the motor, new top, new interior and new wheels. Might need to lean on some of you 944 tufosi. I have some plans to make this car look cool. It's going to be fun.

Cheers
Scott

Forgot to mention its got 157,000kms on it.

Great to hear of another cab in Aus,
Where abouts are you?

Adelaide. I've already started ordering bits. Clear indicators. Managed to find a set of aero mirrors and 968 door handles. Ordering a new top next week. Getting some quotes on new leather.

Well she's home. Now the fun begins. Fuel tank was already drained as was radiator. Fuel pump seized. New one on order.

Beautiful looking car. Remember to open the top and spray bug spray all over in the open holes and areas around back seats and sides also under engine and up inside the front fenders from underneath where they meet the body. Under the dash. Mine was similar barn find and was sitting for years in Texas and spiders crawled out of it for weeks!
Have fun with it! :roflmao:

^ Yes....I've already come across about half a dozen Redback spiders. Similar I think your Black Widows. Not to mention 14 dead baby mice in the air filter housing, three in the glove box and five under the seats.

Yeah, I got freaked out while under the car doing the rear muffler, felt things around my neck, got out, looked round the back, saw a dozen or so Redbacks, coming from the UK felt a bit strange fumigating the car before working on it

Mice in the air filter box. Thats a new one. Amazing. i had a squirrel chew through a bunch of wires too. You know cheap ones like plug wires and ref sensor wires and such but got those all updated too.

About a week after all belts and rollers were updated my AC compressor clutch locked up on highway and burned the belt which also runs alternator, so brilliant design there. I luckily turned off all accessories and limped home on battery about 3 miles. Maybe put on a new compressor while you can just for the new pulley/clutch if nothing else.

Also look at those 2 short rubber front fuel lines above the distributor. Or just plain replace them. Mine had a giant bubble in one and was about a week away from blowing up and spraying fuel all over the distributor. Luckily I happened to notice it when checking the balance belt tension and ordered 2 new metal braided ones and stuck those on before driving it again. I had looked at the engine 20 times and never noticed it so just pointing that out in case you havent looked yet. Switch them out fast.

i guess its a known timebomb on the S2 with age on those fuel lines. Among other things like timing chain pads and mice chewing plug wires.

5 years later still running strong and no more spiders! I do put some cab fresh inside it to keep mice out most of the year too

Congratulations !
Wow ... Sports seats !!!!! :-)
How is the condition of them?

DeWolf 12-22-2018 08:59 PM

^ Terrible. I think if you sat on them carefully and farted hard enough, you'd blow a hole through the hard dried up leather. New leather on the way.
