Convertible roof 92 -968
Heya folks
newbie to the 968 forum but have been here in the past with a 88 S4 and a 79 SC 911
took a plunge and purchased a cabriolet and for what it's worth it's in good condition with a recent new ragtop on it but when I try the electric roof to put it down the whirring of the electric drive motor is present as I can clearly hear it but it doesn't pick it up
I can manually put the roof down so the action of the hood bows is good
any suggestions as I have tried a heap of google searches to no avail

Once the bolts that hold the top to the lift motors have been loosened the top is manual until that process is reversed. You have to make sure you time the system right if you try to switch it back to a power top, there are limit switches in the RH actuator motor. It might be smarter to leave it as-is, it's easy to have an issue and break the top main bow when it's powered.
If you do run it as a power top be real careful and watch/listen for any distress sounds or twisting and stop at once, if need be get out the lug wrench and de-power the top rather than twist and break it. That is a very expensive part and of course a potential for a lot of labor to repair.
If your top is in nice shape some people put a towel over the rear window to prevent creasing while down and the need to get out to do this means you might as well have a manual top.
