Default 951 brake booster heat shield nightmare

I had to pull the brake booster, intake manifold and defective steering intermediate shaft and the booster heat shield. Now, regardless of what I do, I can't get the darn heat shield back in. Three days of bitchin' and wrenchin' and no success. Pelican process was of little help and I'm about ready to tank it and just wrap everything. I hope someone has some guidance to get me out of this frustrating hole. Thanks in advance.

The heat shield that forms a seal with hood? I remember that particular one being tough but not three days tough. Maybe you've got order of operations wrong: IIRC, I had to start one of the bottom bolts first

Did you put your intake manifold back in beforehand? The mc booster shield slides right on in very easily if the intake manifold is not in place.

I wish I could get the shield far enough down inside so I could get the bottom bolts on. It always gets hung up on the turbo coolant hard line and the down pipe elbow. Because it gets hung up there, I then can't get the bottom of the shield to clear the frame. The steering intermediate shaft, brake booster, turbo coolant pump and intake manifold are removed and I still can't maneuver it in. I've also been comparing pictures of other shields to make sure it's not deformed.

You sure you're not trying it in reverse? Don't laugh: I think I was doing that for a little while. What do you mean by "hung up"?

I verified the orientation of the heat shield. Hung up means that I can only get it about half way down into the "hole" when the down-pipe, turbo coolant hard pipe and fender framework all prevent further insertion into the hole.

I always engage the lower first, do not tighten the screws.
It can bend a bit, but start in the lower ones first.

Sorry, can't help; it's been a while and I forget what I did. The only thing I can think of is bending it a little to go around obstacles

When you mentioned that I spent a fitful night sleep thinking about that and went back on ebay to look at pictures again and then it hit me, "looking at the bottom holes looked different when you're under the car". Then I looked again and realized after seeing a couple of ads that had the rubber strip on top still attached and realized that I'm trying to install this thing upside-down. Now I feel like a first class dummy! After you-all get through shaking your heads at my stupidity, share a laugh.

Believe it or not, I've had breakthroughs like that explaining problems to my dog. She never really adds much to the conversation but it works pretty well anyway.

Dogs are great therapists.

Don't feel bad, we have all done something similar. Being dyslexic makes things interesting sometimes. Every now and then I would safety wire a bolt or nut to pull it loose, not tighter, but never had a problem with turning nuts or bolts the wrong way
