I went and got the car today. The seller was great, and has taken great care of it. The price was worth it. The condition was very good, and the sentimental value makes it priceless.
Yes, the service center probably should have called him first, but it worked out. The seller was happy to be a part of this reunion, and he gets to find his dream car, a ‘68 Mustang.

Now we need to see a picture of the wife on day 1 when she picked it up and again today after being reunited.

Somehow I don't think my wife would be as thrilled if I found her late 80s grand am. I sold my 68 Firebird Convertible after 29 years. I would occasionally get the urge to look up the guy I sold it to then I would open the garage and see the M Roadster which somehow morphed into a Cayman S and I forget who I was going to look up.

the stars aligned.
here is the whole story in case anyone is interested.
Prior to my wife the car was owned by an amazing woman named Janis. She met my wife Andreea, who had just come to America from Romania and was working as a server at the country club restaurant Janis was a member. Janis and Andreea became very close friends, and they refer to each other as mother and daughter. She taught my wife how to drive a manual in this 944, and Andreea took her driving test in it. She then generously gave my wife the car in 2005.
A few years later Andreea had a little off road excursion that ended up costing too much to fix (because Porsche) on her servers salary so she reluctantly had to sell the car.
In 2008, I met my wife on Match.com, and in her profile, she wrote about memories of driving her Porsche 944 S2. I was not a Porsche owner at the time, but I was a car nut, so this elevated her to the top of my list.
When we met for the first time, Janis was there to make sure I was not some crazy guy off the internet trying to abduct her daughter. Andreea would often talk about her car that she dubbed “ladybug” and how much she missed it.
Fast forward to 2018 and Andreea is turning 40 in June. We decided her present would be a red convertible. I looked for a 944 S2 but most that were local were silver, black or white. We found a beetle that looked promising but in person it was too far gone. So I kept looking.
On November 2, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Very early and treatable, but I knew she would need something to take her mind off it.
I started looking at 944s aggressively. I found a black one in Florida that looked great and had low miles. I agreed to buy it but then an odometer issue made me back out of the deal.
At the same time, Janis ended up in the hospital and Andreea and I had to go to through papers at her house and gave me the thought that Janis might have some paperwork with a VIN. Andreea remembered that she kept her old insurance card and the radio security card from the 944. Now you tell me???
I had my mission. I would’ve never guessed how easy it would be, but it was extremely fortunate. There was only the one service record from 2011 reported to carfax. The person on the other end of the line at the service shop, while not really the proper thing, did the right thing by giving me the owners info.
Not knowing if this person still owned it, I reached out via text and he was naturally suspicious. and shared the insurance card as proof.
We talked on the phone the next day and arranged to meet.
The rest you know.
Now we’re looking forward to putting a lot more miles on Ladybug for years to come.
Wish us luck.

That is awesome!
When I was 16 I had a B.C. Rich Ironbird guitar that I used to play (I was a big fan of Poison back then... ya I know) Anyways I sold it before going off to college. Anyways 20 years later I get back into playing guitar, trolling Craigslist I find my black Ironbird for sale. I figured it was a sign so I brought it home.
The only car I have had that I would love to find if it's not completely rusted out is my 1987 CRX Si. I am pretty sure it's long gone.

I've always said that owning a Porsche is a marriage and not a fling. You have to toss a boat load of money and attention at them to give you the buzz that you need from them.

I think the only car I'd consider buying back is my 1989 M3, but I sold at the bottom of the market and it needed some work.
The next owner was in town and spent a LOT restoring and refurbishing it, but he ended up selling it.
From there it went to a flipper in New York, then one in Florida, then one in Michigan until it ended up at the Toy Barn in Dublin Ohio. It sold from there in 2016 and I haven't seen it lately. The New York flipper still has it on their website, but at least it's now marked "sold", it wasn't for a long time.
Right now my Firehawk 944 looks a lot like Swenny's avatar, and it will probably end up costing me as much as the M3 by the time I'm done. No plans on selling it so I'm not really concerned about it.
I'm glad you found your car.

I would like my 95 Dakar M3 with PSS9s, and some other fun stuff back. But I ran the same time in my 128i the first time I took it to the track. Now with Koni Sports and M3 control arms I think my 08 bottom of the line BMW should outperform my 95 top of the line BMW. Yes winter is here while I bench race against myself.
