Hi Guys, Everyone has been great, thank you for that.
So, it turns out that I spun a bearing and so the car needs an engine.
My shop that preliminarily assessed the car contacted a reputable Porsche specialist who wants $175/hr CAD and he said that an engine rebuild is $20k+
I have another shop that is $75/hr CAD that originally told me not to touch the engine (if I spun a bearing) and that I need to consider changing the engine.

The 89' Turbo with the S package, has the same engine (short block?) as the 86-89 Turbo's for the exception of the K27 turbo, and suspension, LSD, etc?

So technically, the sensible option, since the car isn't a museum piece, but is still valuable is to park it and wait for the right engine to replace mine with and it's more like a $10k option vs. $20k?

Thanks a ton guys.

In my opinion without opening it up it hard to tell what the rebuild cost would be. The oil pan can be dropped and the damage and cylinder walls can be inspected.

If you just spun a rod bearing the damage may just be limited to the crankshaft which can be remachined or a new crank installed. I would accept GPS951s offer.

Sorry to hear about your engine. $20K sounds astronomical for a rebuild, I can't fathom how anyone could come up with that even at $175/hr. But regardless if you are looking to swap, these engines aren't very hard to come by. User bw993 has a long block for sale right now from an '88 951 for $1600 US with a "recent rod bearing refresh and new head gasket (2k miles)" or a short block for $875. You'd have to import it which will add to the cost but even if you double the price you're still well under $10K even with labor, much less if you do it yourself. I'm sure there are other examples; that one was just top of the list.

I'd appreciate if you could share what oil weight/brand/type you've been running.

And list it as "ran when parked."

Sorry to hear about the failed bottom end.
I think the replacement engine you suggest is the right approach. Rebuild and upgrade the turbo and replace all the exhaust hardware while it's out.
Note that the turbo s and the 89 turbo use a unique block and are not the same as those used in the 86,87 and 88 non s engines.
I do have two of these S engines here in Boston, Ma. if needed. One is a complete and fresh engine, the other a short block with good useable bores.

Turbo S had K26 turbo not K27.

Every 87+ NA/turbo block will fit, NA versions need turbo oil outlet drilled&tapped.

I'd want to keep original or at least turbo S M44/52 block as that's the first thing enthusiastic future buyer will look at.
