Default Balance shaft belt alignment

A well known local indy Porsche repair shop recently assessed my car. One of the comments made after driving the car was that the engine had a vibration above 4,000 rpm and the balance shafts are not properly aligned. This guy fixes and drives a LOT of 944s and I trust his opinion. I pulled the timing cover on the car and everything looks correct to me. Can anyone confirm that I have the belt properly aligned?

google Arnwerx or Arnworx as they have the best article on the subject IMO

Looks correct to me from checking both Arnnworx and Clark's garage.
  1. If the sprocket is properly installed on the upper balance shaft, the "O" stamped on the sprocket will be visible in one of the round openings on the cover.
  2. If the sprocket is properly installed on the lower balance shaft, the "O" stamped on the sprocket will be visible in the rectangular opening on the cover.
I guess I will button it back up.

With both shafts aligned correctly to their respective marks and both shafts keyed vertically, the upper shaft “O” will be vertical and so will the lower shaft “U”. Yours don’t look like that to me. It’s very easy to get the lower shaft 180 degrees out which will cause the symptoms you describe.

Looks correct to me. Here's what mine looks like if you have any doubts.

You can always just remove your b.s. belt & run without it for an experiment if you like, though if properly aligned there isn't a lot to be gained. I drove with just the belt removed for about 10,000 kms to decide if I wanted to run with them or not.

One thing I like to add is when the crankshaft is at TDC, the key ways on both balance shafts are in the 12 o'clock position.
