Ive promised to let my ex-g/f (now were very good friends) drive it if shes interested, and ill teach her 5spd.

Im still worried tho, a couple times when weve played racing games at the arcade its "Brian I start it in first right? Not 5th?"

Uh oh...

As a general rule, I'm not opposed to letting them drive the 944. I even let one ex borrow it for the night! But that's more of a case-by-case basis... I've dated some women who will never make it out of the passenger seat...

I won't let anyone drive the 911. Not because it's a 911 or anything, but because of the sentimental value attached to this particular car (it was my father's pride and joy).

Hell, I learned how to drive in a 911!

I taught my girlfriend how to drive stick in my '84. She didn't get it out of second though....she came to the determination that the car should be in the lowest gear it will "go" in....uh oh...

Other than that, she doesn't even want to ride in it any more, because my head unit doesn't play mp3's (but it has an aux input so I can use my MD player!) and finds the "quirks" of my 20 year old car....disconcerting.

At any rate, she's dreaming about owning a 'vette Z06....so some good AX bonding experiences could be in the future.

I let my wife drive it once and she had to call me to ask where the emergency brake lever was located. That was the first and last time.

I'd be hesitant to let any friend drive my car 'cuz I'd be afraid of being mad at them if they mess it up.

I taught my wife to drive stick with the Porsches last year...

Interesting thing was that she was able to drive the stick shift better on the 951 than on the 944 NA....

Looks like she's going to become a fan of the boost pretty soon

weird. i can drive my 84 with no throttle cam very smoothly. a bit rougher with the throttle cam to get the revs matched. even tougher to be smooth in my roommate's 951. i've never let a significant other drive my car, never got a chance to teach any of them to drive stick in it. oh well. i taught one of my friends (she's a girl) to drive her own probe, which she bought for $500 and couldnt drive home because she didnt know stick. i spent upwards of 4 hours late one night teaching her. so she could drive it home. she was VERY nervous, but she did well, and she made it back with her car. now she doesn't want another automatic car.

i told her when she's good enough she can drive my car we'll see how it goes, she's still getting there.

How come I can't vote 'I don't let my wife drive it, but my girlfriend does?'

Bet I'm alone on this one:

I gave it to her for her 40th as she always wanted a Porsche. But it's a manual and she's not comfortable with them, but does drive them, so has never actually driven HER car!

I've let my wife drive both my turbo and my racecar... the latter which she's spun, taken off-roading, the whole nine yards... on TV, no less.

Sometimes she lets me drive her WRX, too!

The only thing she refuses to drive is my tow beast, the Suburban...

I "let" Julie drive any of "my" cars, but she's had a bad experience in the '72 so she probably won't touch that one until it has the new motor in it (..and even then..maybe not). She does fine in the Boxster, but I think I make her nervous when I'm riding with her, so she prefers that I drive it whenever we go somewhere.

She's very happy with her Subie...

She can drive the 951, but can't handle the 915 gear box : )

Kate has driven the 951 once, I think she was scared of it.. I don't think the RPM's came above 3000. She likes the passenger seat though, esp. on track. She did fine for a while then stalled it at a light 'cause she forgot about the clutch. She'll be on-track in the Mini this summer. She does pretty good with the "Stick".. I'll make sure she gets a lot of practice before the DE.

Default Wife OK in P-Car

I let the wife drive the 944(her car in shop, golf course, out on the town, ect).I've had 4 944s and she said she liked the 85 1/2 the best.My current unit(83) has manual steering(and 225/50/16s) up front so she complains about effort required to turn the wheel. She actually was involved in serious accident in my 87(totaled when hit from behind by a driver going 60 mph). She was hurt pretty bad(testament to structure of the car and the seats that she wasn't killed)(her first words to the police before they could contact me and the ambulance arrived was to make sure they told me that it(accident) was not her fault because she knew how much I cared about that car(made me feel bad)(insurance check made feel good again though-bought an 84 from a friend that he had in storage .).Anyway,the only thing I notice after she has been in it(besides the radio stations being messed up) is the clutch seems to feel different(might be a figment of my immagination but it just feels a little different-hard to explain).Nothing looks better than a hot lady in a 944.(My biggest challenge has been keeping my 19 yr old daughter out of it-she's into the fast and furious stuff and is obsessed with her tricked out Nissan Maxima).I have ,however, let my son take it out(with much anxiety until it is back at home in its garage) with no side effects that I know of(he was the one that got the whole Porsche thing going when he talked me into buying my first 944(15 yrs ago ) it was sitting on a lot by our house and you should of seen the looks(from the wife) when we pulled up in it(not good).
