85 or 85 1/2? Which one is it?
I just bought a 944 that was going to be junked if I didn't buy it. I felt I had to rescue it. Body is solid, but interior door panels are shot, dash is cracked and many trim pieces are missing. I am hoping to put it back together. I was told it is a 1985.5 Is there a way to tell by the VIN?
Also, what is the best source for used parts? Other than Ebay? Is there a supplier that specializes in 944?
Thanks,
Ray

Congrats!
A 1985.5 will have an interior that looks like this (except for aftermarket steering wheel)

The 1985 has a less "oval-y" interior.

There are more people who will probably chime in with parts sources.

There are other differences besides the updated interior - '85.5 has a flush-mounted windshield, it has smooth rain gutters, it will also have aluminum suspension control arms (as opposed to steel), and it will have a 21 gallon fuel tank (as opposed to 16).

I looked at the 2 links and mine looks like neither. I only have 2 gauges in the center cluster and in the middle is an AC control ****. Below that is the HVAC controls and they are not automatic. Once I get the car in the air, I will be able to check on the suspension parts. Mine has a blue colored valve cover. I don't remember Porsche making blue ones. Guessing someone painted it?

The early cars had an option for no AC I believe. If this was the case they came with a battery voltage gauge. Based on that description, yours is likely early. But posting a pic wouldn't hurt.

see those two little fingers on top of that plate?
those engage the underside of the area above it...there are 2 little screws that then go vertical on the underside of that heater control plate.
