Good to know. I'd assumed the S2 Club Sports came with the M030 suspension that lists (according to Clark's) a 24 mm torsion bar on both the standard and M030 option. Maybe Jim can confirm they actually used the '87+ Turbo Cup 25.5 mm bars.

I'm also confused about the original M030 front sway bars for the S2s, which I'd been told were 30 mm by several people, but Clark shows as 25.5 also.

I do have the double adjustable front Konis on the car now, but I'm still trying to figure out what Porsche sent out on the rears for the Club Sports. I know most, if not all, of the cars now have rear coil overs, either the Bilstien or Konis, but I don't know what the factory originally shipped?

From the factory, the 87+ M637 Cars had 25.5mm rear T-bars. 30mm front, 21mm 3-way adj rear sway bars. Koni 8742 dbl adj front struts and 8242 rear coilover shocks. Used the Turbo Cup progressive front and rear springs. Mix of harder rubber and solid suspension bushings and mounts. As raced, some of the cars ended up with various other suspension parts over the years. I believe the S2 Clubsports that raced in the Firehawk were required to detune their suspension to meet the series rules.

M030 suspension is pretty tame compared to what the Cup/Escort/Clubsport cars came with.

Thanks Jim, that helps both by confirming the 25.5 T-bars and also by distinguishing between the M030 option and what was shipped on the Escort/Cup/Club Sport cars. In most of my research, the terms seem to be freely interchanged, with the implication that a Club Sport S2 (i.e. Firehawk car) was just an S2 with the M030 suspension and a magnesium oil pan (an intentionally gross oversimplification, but still the general impression I'd been left with), but the further I investigate the more I've come to doubt that.

Having shipped from the factory with rear coil overs is very important to me. I've resisted installing rear coil overs so far because I've been unable to get an authoritative reading on what came from the factory vs. what got installed almost before the paint was dry by the team that ordered the car. This helps.

It would be even more useful to find out what de-tuning was required for the Firehawk series. I've heard the stories about ping pong ***** in the gas tanks already

I would find some late 16" phone dials, 8" front and rear,
1) allows you to rotate tires and get way more life out of them (even if you just continue to DE and never race, tires will be your most costly perishable)
2) gives you a perfect base to balance the car
3) you don't have an amount of power on the drive wheels to justify a wider rear

Tires will no doubt give you the best lap time benefit but at $1000-$1200 a set, you could just about install mo30 bars, 30mm rear torsion and get the coilover kit for your Konis + springs.
If you are going no further than fast lapping/DE, this setup will do you fine, coupled with good tires later after you settle on pads that suit your style.

If you plan on building now the base for eventually racing, then you already have spent good money for SP1 (Konis) but up from there, SP2, Koni Sports aint gonna cut it.
Once you balance the car with springs, mo30 bars are fine (we race these at the top level of SP2) and IMO the higher $$, more complicated bars are unnecessary gimmickry.

So, for improved car that will be a great handling package on the cheap for fast DE days,

4 x 8" phone dials
30mm rear torsion bars
Coilover kit for your Konis + 400 lb springs
mo30 sway bars
track pads (stock NA callipers)

I have coilovers with Koni's front and rear 350lb springs front and 200lb springs in the rear with stock TB's as helpers. 968 M030 front sway bar and Weltmeister rear sway.
KLA monoball strut mounts and KLA strut brace.

I don't think it's too much at all for road use. But everyone is different. The roads are pretty damn smooth in Tennessee so your mileage may vary :P
