Car running rich ? how to correct ?

so I saw a post on a 944 Fbook group from a guy whose car was running rich . he described it as smelling like a 2 stroke engine . Mine is doing the same thing . has been since i bought it last summer . it runs fine but smells like a 2 stroke engine . there were a couple suggestions in the Fbook post but i have since lost it under the mountain of stuff that comes through Fbook . ( that is one of the nice things about a forum , you can tag posts and save them ) .
so I though I would post here and see if I can't get some suggestions on what o tinker with to correct the problem, if it is even a problem .

My car starts and runs just fine , doesn't seem to burn much if any oil .
however it does smell fummy , like a 2 stroke engine .
any ideas one how to correct this ?

I will say that I only smell the fumes when the windows are down , it seems to get sucked into the cabin , with the windows up I don't smell anything .

What do the spark plugs look like?

Has the O2 sensor, if fitted, ever been changed?

If you pull the vacuum, line from the fuel pressure regulator (and damper, if fitted) does any gas come out?

I assume this is a 944 but it's not clear which particular sort.

AFM adjustment is the first thing I would do. If the FPR diaphram is broken, it will probably not start as the engine could be flooded.
