I like the 914, I wouldnt mind having a nice example with fuchs on it! To bad majority of them are all rusted out, or at least the ones I have seen.

Anywho, I wish I could help you out, but I don't own one and don't have any real experience. Yet.

only rust is in the battery box...we'll replace that.....i dont know if we want to go street or autoX for sure...but i think it would be too expensive for me to do a restore....so leaning towards a track car
or, parting out?

Depends on what I was doing with it. Right now, it'd be the 944 because it's a more civilized, all-around car. However, if I wanted an autocrosser and practicality weren't an issue, well, sorry waterpumper...
In the end, it boils down to the love of a two-seater, mid-engined, targa topped roadster. Even if the 944 was still faster, well, it's just not the same thing.
Sometime over the next few years, I'll end up with a third car... it'll either be the 911 that's sitting in my driveway, a 914, or a Miata (which the only reason I'd choose it over the 914 is for reasons of cost).

ok
heres how i see it.
the 914 cant possibly handle as good as the 944.(i think)
it doesnt have a porsche engine.
i think the body style is not that tasteful at all.
and there slower.

Have you heard of the 914/6?
Styling? That's subjective.
Straight-line, yeah, they aren't that fast. But then, there were a lot of 911 owners back in the 70s that were wondering why they just got smoked by a 914 in the twisties.
Not that I'm going to get into a "which car is better" arguement. All in all, that's kind of lame and it misses the point.
They have their plusses, and one of their big strengths is their ability to out-carve some of the best canyon carvers out there. Is that enough to make one car better than another? Dunno...
In the end, it really boils down to preference. Liking/disliking a 914 is the same thing as liking/disliking chocolate cake.
But hey, I wish they weren't as well liked as they are. I could easily justify the cost of picking up another 944. I can't justify that twice-as-expensive 914s...

It even runs circles around a 911.
And a 914 with a 3.2 911 engine and slight suspension mods is almost unbeatable on the track.
I have seen this first hand.
