Thinking About A Come Back
hey everyone, I used to be a regular on the forums and if anyone remembers I sold my 951 since a baby was coming and the wife needed a new vehicle. Well it’s been over a year since I sold her and I’m having withdrawls. My wife is happy in her 2017 Sienna Sport model and I am now in this debate do I keep my 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Fastback major project non running or some back to the 944 club. My real debate will be do I go 951 again or buy a 944 NA and do the V8 swap. Just posting to see what any input you all have would be?

If it was me, unless there was a really good reason - I wouldn't revisit a car I previously had. It won't be a new experience.
The Mustang sounds really cool but as you said it's not running so you can't enjoy it and it'll probably be a long time from enjoyment.
The 944 NA will probably feel lack luster after the 951 though the V8 swap will probably refresh it a bit.
I say get a 928. It'll be an entirely new experience and comes with a V8 while still being in familiar territory. It'll probably be more expensive though...

I'm in the same boat as you, except I'm ruling out a 951. Looking at doing a 5.3 turbo swap on an NA 944. I'm looking at the 5.3 LM4 in the garage as I type this. All my parts are ready to go in it save for turbo shopping still; block just needs a cleaning. Good luck on whatever you choose! If you go V8, don't let the sensitive Sallys here drag you down about being impure.

You can still find a nice 928 for $20K if you're willing to shop national and wait for the right car. Maybe start out with the S2 and hope you can still afford a 928 in a few years?

Coming from a 928 owner, these cars are fun, but there's a sense of accomplishment completing your own LS swap in a 944. The 944, being nimble already, struggles with power (if you opt for an NA), until you toss in a V8. I remember I used to frown upon swapped cars, believing it to be a cardinal sin. After riding in a swapped 944 around a race course, I've caught the fever. There's just something insidious about a 'budget' Porsche that makes the horsepower of a supercar.

Not anymore. I bought mine in 2001, when it was a 'budget' supercar, then you find out the hard way that many were neglected maintenance-wise.
There is no such thing as a budget supercar in reality.
Being that I will have both a 928 and a Turbo'd 5.3 944, I can tell you which one is my sunday driver and which one is my track ****; which one gets rubbed with a diaper, and which one gets rubbed by my opponent's tire.
