Default Installing a lighted rear plate frame

New to the site, so apologies if there is already a related thread... but I just got my '87 951, and while its nearly perfect condition, it does have the dreaded porsche reflector option.

Long story short it won't pass inspection in VA without the a lighted rear plate. I'm sure the initial response here will be to remove the deflector and move the plate to the original location, but I'm not yet ready to do that yet, so I'm weighing options. I just bought a lighted led rear plate frame, but I'm wondering if anyone has similar experience installing? I'm sure i'll need to drill a small hole for the wiring, but i'm not yet sure where i'll run the wiring from to power the LEDs? Hoping I can splice from an existing wire powering one of the rear lamps, but I don't know whether the fuses will support that?

Sorry if its a noob question, but any help would be very appreciated!

And pics of my new baby, just because..

There's likely already a small hole. You can tap into the rear lights without problem.

Nice looking car by the way. If you can't find a suitable existing hole there is a small drain hole under the spare. You can tap into the tail lights and run the wire to your tag holder's light. Use some duct tape and wire ties to secure wires and hello inspection . Not pretty but will do till you return it to stock.

I have the same light in a box in the garage that I want to install. Did you use LED bulbs?

LEDs hardly draw any current so the taillight wires will be fine to tap into
